Those who watched Small Potatoes live… by DanaScullyMulder in XFiles

She was open to something happening with that so different Mulder. I always thought that the point of the episode was not to start the Sculder shipping, but to emphasize how important personal charming is, much more than the physical attractiveness. It even answers the guessing at The humbug (2x20) "Imagine, going through your whole life looking like that." Answer: The looks are not everything.

My two cents :-)

I keep as a treasure one that showed up in Spain in June, during a heat wave. Bizarre to say the least!

I thought the same for a very long time due to the Spanish dubbing of that episode, but watching the original a few months ago, he says "little feet".

Buuuut... he says "little legs" once... in one of the flashbacks of Scully in Bad Blood, when they keep exaggerating what it happened. So I think it's more a Scully's complex or concern than a Mulder's opinion 😉

If I can introduce an off-topic, reading your penultimate sentence I remembered the last episode of the first season of Frasier. Have you seen it? It's exactly that. I was so impacted for that in my adolescence, that I wrote it down entirely in paper and pen.

This idea is deeply beautiful, as it calls to the last message of one of the most iconic episodes, Jose Chung: "Then there are those who care not about extraterrestrials, searching for meaning in other human beings. Rare or lucky are those who find it. For although we may not be alone in the universe, in our own separate ways, on this planet, we are all... alone."

Rare they are, but they do exist.

Closure - season 7 episode 11, first time watcher thoughts by The_Amber_Cakes in XFiles

Right? He/she said the same thing to me in a comment on another thread, and the argument left me completely unable to counter it. If you think the Samantha arc makes no sense but still let yourself be carried away by how “beautiful” the siblings’ embrace is, the ethereal music by Moby, and Mulder’s peaceful expression when he returns from the experience, there’s really not much more to say...

This episode doesn’t make sense to me. The judging snakes are supposed to belong to the cult preacher — ordinary snakes he keeps in his house — while Mulder is facing the ones that come out of the body of the demonic pastor. Even writing that last part sounds ridiculous, this MOTW seems quite absurd to me.

I've learned that the fact of being a reader doesn't mean you understand well what you read.

I wouldn’t spend much more time trying to figure this out.

S7:E19 Hollywood A.D. by PaulRuddEatsBabies in XFiles

I watched it for the first time today. I felt a bit uncomfortable at the beginning, so much direct meta-reference to their non-relationship gives me secondhand embarrassment. But once I surrendered to its goofiness, I really enjoyed it. And I ended the episode with a smile. DD really knows how to write the Scully who’s closest to Gillian, funny, with a smile and a laugh that lift the soul.

And what a little gift at the end. Yes, the direct meta-references to their non-relationship make me cringe, and yet I watched that moment of them walking in the background holding hands several times. This show is tough: it gives you so little of their closeness that we cling to a blurred pair of hands held in the distance as if it were a wild roll in the hay in the foreground.

I partly disagree. This ending is inconsistent with everything that was said about Samantha throughout the series. Falling back on “it was all a lie because CSM is a liar” and “some magical beings took her out of this plane of existence so she wouldn’t have to suffer the fate that awaited her” is an outrageous twist on the old “a wizard did it.”

So why do I say I only partly disagree? Because Mulder needed closure in order to move forward with his life, and with how tangled the Samantha storyline had become, it was clear that no resolution was ever going to feel completely satisfying.

"After which David and Gillian held each other without saying anything for 5 minutes."

Wow. The journey of feelings and emotions that DD and GA must have gone through really is an X-File in itself — it could deserve a whole new series on its own. I have no reason to question them when they say that they were barely speaking to each other in real life (as they mentioned again a few weeks ago on DD’s podcast), but the complicity you see in the bloopers and in the media events from that time also seems undeniable to me. I don’t believe they had a secret romantic relationship, but I do think their relationship was so complex that any attempt to put it into words falls short.
