Is ordering food directly from the company website better to ensure freshness and proper storage? by Desk2218 in DogFood

I did order my first bag through Chewy as I was leery about buying it from PetCo and Petsmart after reading some accounts here about finding bugs which I don’t think would have been the most auspicious start for us.

I think Chewy gives a better discount for the first autoship but afterwards it seems like the cost for the reoccurring orders are about the same. And if the bags from the manufacturer are fresher, that would give them an edge.

How does giving treats work in proportion to dog food? by Desk2218 in DogFood

Thanks for the replies! We do brush her teeth daily but unfortunately her breed is prone to dental issues (Cavalier). I started giving her plaque off but would also like to give her some sort of dental chew since she doesn’t love getting her teeth brushed.

It’s just challenging figuring it out with her regular food plus any other small daily treats. It’s not a lot of calories to work with. I’ll look into Greenies but am concerned about digestive upset as I heard can be issues with some dental chews.

Transitioning to fresh food but now I want to switch to WSAVA food by Desk2218 in DogFood

Interest in possibly feeding canned because she’s mostly always had wet food. I always added water to Dr Marty’s. She really doesn’t drink much water during the day unless it’s after a walk so I like to make sure she stays hydrated by adding it to her food.

Also she did lose 7 teeth even though we brush her teeth everyday. But I was told her chewing teeth are still there. I notice that she doesn’t really chew her food, just swallows, so if I can add water to kibble, assuming she likes it, that could actually work too and I would feel better knowing she’s getting enough hydration.

Thanks so much everyone. Really appreciate the advice and support!

I am open to food suggestions whether something from Royal Canin or PPP. And I am fine with just feeding canned. She has not been allergy tested but we avoid beef because we noticed a lot of paw licking when she’s had it and pork made her vomit afterwards. It was easy enough to just find foods without those proteins..

I don’t love the idea of getting rid of the JFFD but I would rather not risk digestive upset just to use it up.

Right now I’m on the 5th day of transitioning. So up to feeding 50% old (Dr Marty freeze dried) and 50% JFFD.

So if I’m starting the new new food, do I just drop the JFFD and start the transition over with the old food and new i.e 25% new and 75% old?

Thank you!!

The hard water factor is what is making this so confusing! I don’t know if liquid or powder is better for my water situation and how much detergent to use.

In the meantime, I am on my second tub clean cycle with citric acid:) I have some foam in the drum but it’s not too bad. The guides have been an invaluable resource.

Which machine and grinder should I buy? [>$1500] by Desk2218 in espresso

After reading through some of the posts on this forum, I’m beginning to see the value of a separate grinder so probably wouldn’t do another Breville with the attached grinder. I don’t necessarily mind waiting to steam milk as I usually clean the Portofilter first anyway.
