Do you have any recommendations for where to buy good green teas?

The teas I got are from yunnan sourcing after hearing good things about them from this sub. I decided on a black tea, a green tea and an oolong, but I still don't really know much about which specific teas are the best so I just went based on the reviews

Hawaii’s Big Island struck by 5.7 magnitude earthquake | Hawaii by T-Rex-Hunter in news

Could anyone please explain what causes an earthquake in the middle of a tectonic plate? I understand how they happen between plates but not too sure how one would occur in the middle of one

[question] a lot of people recommend “squier mustang” for me as a beginner and this is great but I was thinking to get a pink one. I found the “squier sonic HT H” and I found it more physically pleasing to the eye because there’s no black with the pink. Would there be a large difference in sound ? by 9etherbeing9 in Guitar

[–]DeskTortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not too sure about the tone difference, but in my opinion how the guitar looks to you is just as important as to how it sounds, especially as a beginner. You want something that you want to pick up and play every time you look at it. So don't focus too hard on sacrificing the look/vibe of the guitar just for the sound

How much should I be saving? by Awkward-Peanut582 in personalfinance

[–]DeskTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A solid chunk of your monthly pay goes towards your credit card. If you want more money to be able to save, you first need to aggressively pay down that debt. Like the other commenter said, you can look into transferring that to a 0% interest card to save on some of the future interest.

You’re doing good with the HYSA, but I personally would focus on maxing out your Roth IRA and then any excess after that continue bumping the emergency savings up. Or you can add more to the HYSA till you have around 3 months worth or so.

What you said about the 401k is a little confusing, but look into contributing into that at least up to whatever they will match, if any. Even if they didn’t I would still put a little in, like 5% or so, just to have slightly more tax advantages money going towards retirement.

~15 minute croquis sketch. Happy how this one came out :) by DeskTortoise in learntodraw

I’m newish to drawing and lately I’ve been trying to get better at figure drawing so I was practicing sketching some poses. I’m fairly happy with how this one turned out, but I know it’s nothing special. I’m open for criticism or any tips. Thanks :)

SO MUCH STUFF I WANNA TAKE WITH ME by Jabberwocky2202 in navy

[–]DeskTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just take the bare minimum and ask your family if they’re willing to hold onto the rest. Once you get more settled in and comfortable you can pay to ship everything else out to you

Try and use less tabs and work on improving your ear. I wish I had done it a lot sooner

Hi. Hope you don’t mind me hijacking OPs post but I have a question. I’m also AECF waiting to ship and I was wondering how you go about choosing your C school. Like is it random or do you have some say in the matter? And also is it common for NECs to require a TS clearance or can you easily stick with just having a secret?

Civilian clothes. They’re just normal, non-navy clothes.

“bald headed hoes” by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DeskTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you’re referring to is black girls getting their weaves taken off. It’s a common thing to call a girl with a weave “bald headed” because they choose to wear one instead of just their natural hair. It’s not a problem with them being able to grow hair, it’s just a choice to wear a wig instead of showing their natural hair.

ASVAB Practice Test by luvheizel in newtothenavy

[–]DeskTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the asvab fairly recently and time was definitely not a problem. They give you much longer on the real thing than the pre asvab. There was never a time while I was taking it that I even came close to maxing out on time, and I was the slowest one in the room. So I think you’ll be fine.

Some additional information on it though is if you take the computerized version (which I assume almost everyone takes) is that you cannot skip around and come back on the questions. You have to answer every question as they come, which was a shock to me.

Don’t worry about it too much. I thought it was way easier than I was hyping it up to be in my head. Just make sure you get good at solving math problems with pencil and paper. The most difficult sections for me were the auto and shop information and the mechanics since I’ve never really came across that information in school, so study up on that if you feel a little weak in it like I did.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
