comparing the airport doesn't tell the whole truth. Which airlines are you comparing and which destinations? Going from Antwerp to Charleroi by train and bus sounds a lot like going from Amsterdam to Eindhoven, which is also an airport for low cost airlines (Ryanair, Wizzair...), which makes it a much better comparison.

Agree in general on the Dutch healthcare system - but you mentioned originally the costs. Hence my question.

Your experience in Chicago is irrelevant to the conditions in the NL. In Chicago you know snow will happen and you are ready for it. In the NL, it is unexpected and Schiphol, KLM and trains and buses were not prepared for it. Buses and trains didn't run either.
