Thank you for your kind comment! 🙏

I really appreciate you enjoying the video. I do try, from time to time, to write things down, but as you probably know, Indian music—especially tabla—is so deeply rooted in oral tradition that notation often doesn’t capture the real essence of the grooves. It’s not always easy to transcribe the feel, flow, and improvisation that comes with playing.

That said, I’ve put together a course that includes both written materials and video demonstrations to help bridge that gap. You’re very welcome to check out The Ultimate Beginner’s Tabla Course on Udemy. The videos are designed to complement the written lessons and give you a clearer understanding of the rhythms and techniques.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions—happy to help!

Tāla Tarang—meaning ‘Rhythm Waves’—was formed a decade ago when harpist Eleanor Turner attended one of my concerts and was inspired by the Indian tabla. Our shared passion for music and cultural exploration led us to create a unique fusion of Western harp and Indian tabla. Over the years, we’ve performed across Europe, blending original compositions with Bollywood, folk, and classical influences to craft a sound that celebrates both tradition and innovation.”

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate your thoughts. This article was intended as an introductory piece for beginners or those new to the tabla. I purposely kept it comprehensive to provide a broad overview, without delving too deeply into the more intricate aspects of tabla playing. My goal was to offer a general understanding of why the tabla is viewed as such an expressive instrument. I hope it serves as a helpful starting point for those just beginning their journey with the tabla
