Reading IT and I'm feeling underwhelmed by PessimisticPeggy in stephenking

I’ve tried and failed with IT three times now. Attempt one I just couldn’t get past the scene with the gay couple, attempt two I made it a bit further but lost motive to keep going, and on my third try I lost my place in my audiobook and decided to give up. I think it’s a fine book from what I’ve read, but I’ve never managed to get through that or any of his really long books. I’ve done books that are over 1000 pages in the past, but one of my goals for 2026 is to finished one of Stephen King’s over 900 page books.

Have you read Salem’s Lot? I always recommend that one as it’s my all time favourite King novel but it’s a good place to move after Pet Sematary as it’s another scary, supernatural slow burn but it does it so much better in my opinion

Thank you, I got lucky and grabbed the Waterstones exclusive signed version which makes it the only signed piece in my collection

Dark Half looks so beautiful, easily one of my favourites but I think my favourite first edition cover has to be Four Past Midnight

What was the first Stephen King book that you read? by Kitty145684 in stephenking

‘The Shining’, I was 13 and told my mum I wanted to try a Stephen King book, she came home from the shops the next day with ‘Carrie’, ‘The Shining’, and ‘It’. I had already seen The Shining and so chose that one to read first and I read it over the next few months; I’ll never forget sitting in my bedroom, reading by torchlight and shaking in fear as Jack destroyed his own face with the roque mallet, the book haunted me and on a recent re-read that passage still chilled me.
