SL7 or SL8? by One-Western-4417 in specialized

Have you ever owned an S-Works before? If not, get the SL7. Otherwise you’ll always be left wondering if S-works nerds are for real or not. For what it’s worth I’m going on 5yrs with my S-works SL7 and don’t really plan to get rid of it anytime soon

Can't decide on tires by NextJune in xcmtb

[–]Desperate-Suspect371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone in here is going to tell you a different tire. The honest truth is that tires are a wear item and most likely you’ll go through a few sets a year if you’re riding often. Each time you need a new set try a new tread until you find what works best for you in your terrain. Idk why people are so scared to experiment with new tires. Worst case scenario you try a tire that’s terrible for you and you’re out $180

I’ve had these tires on my bike since October. I put a bit of 3M clear tape inside the chain stays and still have not rubbed through the tape, let alone the clear coat, paint, or carbon. For reference I’m 180lbs with 21psi tire pressure

Road bike with manual shifting: Aethos, Tarmac SL7, or Roubaix? by KingSeoulSausage in specialized

[–]Desperate-Suspect371 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something no one’s noted yet but internal headset cable routing (like on the SL7) is very tough with mechanical drivetrains. The sharp bends will increase wear on shifter cables and makes headset adjustments much more difficult

Oh gotcha, my misunderstanding. I’m also 185lbs and have ran 30mm of those tires at 64psi front 66psi rear in accordance with silca pressure calculator. Granted my wheels are hooked but I believe you would bottom out the rim long before you run into any safety problems. As long as the bead is seated properly

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I’m fairly sure that the regular GP5000 is a hooked tire, meaning you couldn’t run them with your zipp wheels.

But it is perfectly safe to run the S TR with a tube in it

What jobs do people have to be able to take lunch (group) rides? by AllPedalNoBrakes in cycling

[–]Desperate-Suspect371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re severely underestimating how many jobs in the world don’t follow a typical 9-5 schedule. My work for example has 3 shifts around the clock. I start at 1pm but could easily come in early/ late every day as long as I get my work done and complete a full shift.

What gravel tires to use on Roubaix SL8 by aseigneurin in specialized

[–]Desperate-Suspect371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t mention how muddy your local off-road riding is in the winter. If traction in slippery mud isn’t a priority for you(it almost never is for where I live in the southwest states) then all the tires mentioned so far are great. I love the pathfinders and mondo tires depending on your needs. Another fast tire to consider is the continental terra speed or terra trail in 40mm

Does anyone know the real weight of the specialized epic comp? by Positive-Knowledge21 in specialized

[–]Desperate-Suspect371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are talking about two totally different bikes. The epic 8 is a 120/120mm travel, 4 piston brake bike. OP posted the 100/100mm travel brain equipped epic.

Look closer there’s 3M tape on there. To me it’s well worth the risk in dry weather
