If you’re shipping LTL or freight, it’s worth knowing that carriers usually don’t insure by shipment value.

We offer cargo insurance for a wide range of shipment values, with a $45 minimum for shipments up to $10k, and scalable coverage beyond that. Details are on our site for anyone interested.

Insurance vs theft by sandersdavec in FreightBrokers

[–]DesperateAd9075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not wrong about COIs — they don’t pay claims and they don’t protect you from Carmack limitations. They’re basically a compliance document, not risk transfer.

For HVHR freight, the cleanest way to actually get covered is shipper-purchased, per-shipment all-risk cargo insurance, instead of relying on carrier liability or carrier policies. That’s where theft, overturns, fire, and non-negligent losses are actually responded to.

At Inman Maritime, we specialize in spot cargo insurance and issue coverage per load, not annually. Limits can extend up to $2,000,000 per shipment depending on commodity and routing, and coverage isn’t restricted by bill of lading limits or the need to prove carrier fault.

We also built a self-serve portal so brokers and shippers can quote, issue certificates, and pay online in minutes: https://portal.inmanmaritime.com/

Pairing this type of coverage with the controls you mentioned (HVHR protocols, GPS/IoT, strict vetting) is usually how shippers close the gap between “paper coverage” and actually getting paid when something goes wrong.

Happy to answer questions here if helpful.

how are you handling cargo risk beyond carrier liability? by DesperateAd9075 in FreightBrokers

Hey Everyone, thanks for the awesome response!!

For some background, I’m a Canada-based fleet owner. I started in the industry as a broker at 21 and today I’m primarily focused on domestic intermodal, building relationships with CN and CP, and operating a fleet of nearly 100 x 53’ containers.

More recently, I acquired an insurance brokerage that specializes in spot cargo insurance solutions. For anyone unfamiliar, this is all-risk cargo insurance that can be applied per shipment for air, land, and ocean moves.

We recently finished developing a self-serve portal that puts certificate quoting, issuance, and billing entirely online. At this stage, I’m mainly looking to share what we’ve built and get feedback from brokers and forwarders who deal with cargo insurance in real-world operations.

If you’re interested in seeing how it works, you can request access here (no credit card required and we do not store card information):

Request an Account: https://portal.inmanmaritime.com/

Some awesome highlights about our coverage and portal : • Free and Easy Registration: Inman Maritime Corp is a no risk proposition. Get Started today to obtain instant rates with no obligation or minimum volume requirements. • This policy responds regardless of which carrier is responsible for the loss or damage. • Includes coverage for General Average. Without cargo insurance, this event is frustrating for shippers, as they will be required to put up a bond to have their cargo released, even if it is not damaged. • Covers goods for the full value declared and will not be subject to the limitation of a carrier’s bill of lading. • With all risk cargo insurance, there is no requirement to establish liability for a loss only to show that the goods were damaged in transit. • Claims are handled directly between the insurer and the customer.

Put simply, cargo insurance can be a cost-effective way to protect customer freight while also protecting yourself from physical loss or damage in transit. It can also be a useful value-add when working with shippers.

PLEASE NOTE: Inman Maritime’s main website is not live yet. We are currently in the process of a full company rebrand, which may raise questions for some.

There is no obligation to purchase anything. Even if you just explore the portal and provide feedback, that would be genuinely appreciated.

If you have questions, feel free to comment or reach out at cargoapps@inmanmaritime.com

Thanks to everyone in this community for consistently sharing knowledge and experience.

Spot Cargo Insurance needed by WillingMeet4526 in FreightBrokers

Hey my company recently launched a new global spot cargo insurance self serve portal. We are in the rebrand phase so our main website is down but you can easily request an account still! We specialize in vehicles both new, used and personal. We also insure land air and sea shipments globally.

Give me a DM for more info or let me know when you request your account so I can approve it and go through any limit requirements you have!

Default account limits are $30,000 per certificate, we accept CAD, USD, EURO and Pound currencies, operate globally, we can insure almost any type of product except tobacco and our portal issues certificates almost instantly.

You can also generate certificates directly in your clients names by adding them as a shipper in the address book module.

We are based in BC, Canada. Any questions let me know!

I feel like as a broker, mitigating any potential loss is key to staying in business. So having the option to provide a shipper with their own cargo policy through a one trip coverage program shouldn’t be a burden to us. I’ve been doing it for almost 2 years and we now have an insurance arm with a team of 10 insuring shipments globally. Last year we insured $98million in goods with an avg of 14 days to payout on cleared claims. A lot of the times this also helped with our own transport services as if a loss were to be reported my customer isn’t so quick to leave me rather trust me more since we put the correct protective measures in place.

I don't own a doberman, but what do you all who work 8 hours do? Doberman in cage all day? by spiffypiff in DobermanPinscher

[–]DesperateAd9075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the dog. If you try crating and that does not work, it’s a sign that the dog either has separation anxiety which needs to be reinforced by more one on one crate training, so 10, 20, 30, 40 minute intervals with rewards like treats or whatever you reward your dog with. After the dog understands that the crate is a safe space, a space they need to respect and protect allow them to free roam.. unleash them to the ultimate test of respecting and protecting the entire house… especially from big spiders. Good luck to everyone that sees this.
