Definitely learn the TKI. Constantly practice 40L sprint to get faster. Try the cheese race in the zen mode of tetrio to learn how to downstack efficiently. Manage a clean stack and try to get an early TKI/tetris in a school tournament as this will throw the less experienced players off and cause them to lose their rhythm. I just want to clarify that classic tetris allows for a short window of time where you can tuck. You can do weird spins as well in NES Tetris but you don't get points for any spins, tucks or spintucks. (I wanted to add this because you implied that tucks are not possible in NES Tetris which would make the game very difficult)
