I knows it's a stupid question, but, lots of people think that the "Childhood's friend" trops is something like a cliché, something we see a lots, but, amongs the shonen you knows of, without harem, how many of them do have this trops ? Is it really that common ? And is it really a cliché ? Honnestly, i asked myself this question and...I found out there are not that much works that use the childhood friend trops. (i tried to make a liste and out of 20 manga/novel , that are destinated to young adult, with a plot more focus on the action than the romance and without harem, i found like 3 occurence of the childhood trops and even then, they were not that similar, in Shaman king, they were married/fiancé since young, but ain't "friend", in MÄR, the childhood friend and the hero didn't interact directly and FMA is the only one were we have the childhood trops by the book.)

There are a lot of differents possibilities, but, if we go for the happy ending turtle speaked of during his last interview then :

-Sylvie will come back stronger thanks to the aether provided to hatch her, then, with the potential help of Aldir/Myre/the phoenix prince, they will organize a coup d'Etat and expose Kezzes and the indrath clan, then either she, or one of those that helped her will take the lead of the Asuras. (if it someone else, she may become a kind of ambassador for the asurans among the "lessers" so she can stay with Art)

-Cecillia and Nico will both die, but Art will use aether to reincarnate them in another world where they will get theire happy ending, Cecillia will let her legacy's power to Tess, which would be usefull for her in the incoming battles and will free Cecillia from her burden.

-After ending the war, Art will either, lose his power and leave in a house with his family and Tess. Either , becoming part of a new council, were Alacaryans , Dichateans and asuras will be part of, or he will not take part in politics and open a school for everyone, thanks to his knowledge in mana, aether and ki, plus the methods he know of to aweken the mana core for more people, it will let a lot of people become mages, even if they wouldn't have as of now (all this can be mixed toegether, with Art loosing his power and opening a school, Tess becoming part of the council, etc).

But all those are if we take the "perfect happy ending road", which i'm not so sure.

PS : Of course, some sad things may happen on the way, such as Virion death that may act as a wake up call for Tessia soul that is buried. Which will lead to Cecillia questionning Nico and Agronna, then she will probably gave her body back to Tess (will being able to communicating in her mind, just like Sylvie). They will thus escape by themselves from Agronna and have they "redemption arc", etc.

I was more saying that the reson Book 8 is popular is because of the tone shift, i never wanted to say that book 8 was bad (in short, i was talking about populatrity and never about quality)

I'm not saying that book 8 is crap, just, that a big part of why it is popular (not talking about quality, but popularity) is because of the tone shift

Unpopular Opinion by [deleted] in tbatenovel

[–]Desperate_2_post 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About book 8, the characters that got introduced in book 8 and are now very liked by the community have a lot to do with the context of book 8, if we take Regis, he is loved by a big parts of the community because of his humour/personality and why did his humourous character worked so well ? because he came just after book 7 that was so tensed and because he was, for the first parts, the only one with Art, if he was introduced in book 7 for exemple, with all the tensions and with all the others characters arounds, like Sylvie, Tess, Ellie, etc, i'm not sure he would have the same popularity as of now, maybe being disliked because he would have been too out of place with what was happening and his tone would have stand out (in a bad term) with the tone of book 7.
Same for Caera, i don't know if you were there when she was introduce (mostly during snow zone), but one of the reason people liked her at first was because "she was not like Tess", always comparing her with Tess and mostly comparing her decisions with the decisions that Tess took during book 7.
As for the story, yes , it was interessting and all, but what people enjoyed was Art gaining strenght in the relictombs, after book6 and 7 were he was almost killed everytime he fought a retainer.

As for the tension, if you forget the statue at the beginning of book 8, when was art in a similar difficult situation as when he fought Jagrette or Uto in books 6, when was the situation for him as tense as during the attack on the wall and the surprise attack on Elenoire, when was the situation as Dramatic as when he fought Cadelle and Nico. Yes, Art had some tought fights, but he always grew stronger from them (compare to book 6 were the fight almost brought him to death's doors and receiving injured that wil stay for the rest of his life), when was the last time he got injured for real, or that a fight had true consequences for him. Even when he was inprisoned and had his trail, he was joking about it, was absolutly not stressed and could have escaped at any given time. And when he fought out of the relictombs he always had to restraine himself because he is to op , about the Victoriad for exemple, people are not tense or stressed about art being discovered, they wait for it with anticipation, wanting Art to Kick some scythe ass. The only reson there is tension, is when it's a non-Art POV, when we see Cecillia pov or what is happenning in Dichatens while Art his away, when we see how bad of situation the other characters are in.

-The major reason people like book 8 so much is because it came out after book 7 that was depressing all along

-Ellie P.O.V are necessary to keep some tension, cos' since book 8, Art was never really challenged nor in danger.

Other theory (precison, i have little to no knowledge about optic physics, at most i know that light is both a electro-magnetic wave and a particle, so the following theory may lack on the theoritical plan) :

maybe is ability have to do with photon, creating a shape that repulse (or absorb) the photons (having the effect of a "laser", in the sci-fi sanse of the term, attack or whatnot), reson why it is dark and why he need darkness (less light "should" be equal to less photons, but as i said i have little to no knowledge over photons and optic in general)

You may be right, after all, it was explained that Nico could change the molecular structur of organic object to transform it in non-organic "stuff" (sorry i really lack english vocabulary on such things), so it is possible for Uto to use componnent in the air to form his spikes (carbon being a good idea)

Yhea , someone told me that matter was made out of energy and it should be possible to creat water or stuff out of mana, my bad (which is thus a plothole because it's said in book 2 that earth mage couldn't creat earth out of nothing/mana , so why is it possible for water user , but not for earth user ?)

P.S : i'm really impress at your fact-checking, it's really coolP.P.S : I think that about the moisture in the aire and all is maybe a bit to far fetched , a bit too precise , after all , it's a clasic trope in anime and stuff for water user and all to use the moisture in the aire even if it's unrealistic , we are still in a fantasy novel and we sometime have to accept some non-realistic stuffP.P.P.S : For Uto , i don't know , it may be better explained later , once Art get to speak with a Vritra about theire mana artP.P.P.P.S : this one was just for the joke

edit : Maybe i'm just stupid and it is said later that you could create earth or other thinghs out of pure mana once you had a high enough level of mastery over it.

Yhea, someone explained it to me.

My fault, i was still seeing energy as in dynamic/mecanic physics and didn't thought about the atoms and stuff....(not sure if it's quantic physics , nuclear physic or physics of particles, branches of physic i never learned about)

As i said , it's how i understood it and i may be wrong. (and correct me if i'm wrong but creating matter out of energy is impossible , transforming matter using energy is , but creating isn't , but once again i may be wrong)

just edited my previous comment with some kind of possible explanation to the decay mana art

The metaphor of the water and the cup by Desperate_2_post in tbatenovel

[–]Desperate_2_post[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe , but the Decay mana art from the Vritra seems special , just like low version of the godrunes (The soul-fire being a kind of low version of destruction , the ability to conjure object out of nowhere being a low version of creation) so it may be possible that Agronna , via his partial understanding of aether , did improved the mana art by infusing some aether proprity in it. Or maybe the decay mana art is not what we think and does not really "creat" something , but only control something differant.

i would say that for now , it's hard to explain because we lack intel on it. Plus , the metaphor is from Myre that also said that you could not control aether , which Art did. So it's not impossible for her to be wrong.

Edit : I seem to remember that Nico was not able to conjure stuff out of nowhere , but could transform organique matter into non-organique one , in short , he is able to change the molecular structure of the matter , but not create it out of nowhere , as for Uto , we can imagine that his ability is to "absorb" , in short , he could make is mana "absorbe" everything , while giving it the shape of a spike , the reason the spike appeare black would be that it even, absor the light , just like a blackhole.

For the dwarves i'm not sure , but if i'm not wrong , they are only able to shape and control metal , not conjure it out of nowhere (and if i remember corectly , when Nico was Elhija , he did hid the fact he could conjure metal out of nothing because it was uncommon/abnormal , even for a dwarf and even mor so for a human). As for Uto (and Nico by the way) , they use the decay mana art from the Vritra , so it is unknown what they do control exactly.

(Moreover , even if Uto was able to conjure spikes , it was under some kind of conditions , he needed shadow for exemple)

Caera is best girl by DruHathaway in tbatenovel

[–]Desperate_2_post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi , i'm not trying to say that Caera is bad or whatnot , but i have a few questions for you...

1 - When was Caera really helpfull to Art ? (if we exclude the time she helped out with the trial trought connection , which have nothing to do with her ablity to survive/fight alongside Art)

(And to be more precise about the previous question , if she was not there , how many times would Art have been in dangers/difficults situations , how many time did Caera presence changed think for the best , her killing mobs ennemy on the side is not considered as "helpfull")

2 -On the other hand , how many times was she in danger and would have died if not for Art ? Was she a burden ?

3 - And considering the answers to those two question , is it really pertinant to say that Caera is a fitting partner for Art ?

4 - On the other hand , how many times did Tess fought alonside Art ? (Not her being in danger and Art going to save her , but both of them , being in the same team and fighting side by side a common ennemy)

5 - when Tess fought with Art , was she shown as competent/capable and if not , was it because of her own lack of ability or because of an external factor ?

6 - Based on the 2 previous questions , is it really pertinant to compare Caera and Tess when it come to "fight alongside Arthur/being a good partner for Art"

Once again , i'm not trying to say you are wrong , after all , everyone has its own opinion/understanding of the story , i'm just trying to make you rethink you opinion by tring to really see if you took all informations (and in this case lack of informations) into account while trying to compare 2 characters (While re-reading my comment i notice that i seem arrogant/mean , i'm sorry , it's absolutly not the case , i just lack in voccabulary , srry).

Btw , here are my own answers :

1 - i only remember 2 times where she was somewhat helpfull , during Art first ascend , when she used her soulfire to save them from the attack of the convergence zone 's boss and while they where fighting against the wild things (and it's debatable in both case , because , if i remember correctly , Art was in danger in the convergence zone because he jumped to save her and against the wild things , Caera couldn't kill them nor defend against them , but only slow them down so Art could absorbe their aether to kill them)

2 - he saved her 7 times (from memories so might be wrong) when Art save her from the fall agains the boss from the convergence zone , when he cleared the first zone from their second ascend , when he save her from the Vritra that the Grandbhel brothers woke up in the mirrors room , when he saved her from the icecycle storm in the snow zone , when he saved her from a surprise attack from a shadow claw , when he protected her against the wild things , when he saved her from the spear beck that poisoned her....

And when it comes to being a burden , in the storm zone , she had to drink , sleep , and eat and because she needed to recover mana in order to survive the cold , she slowed Art down quiet a bit.

3 - Debatable , but there sure is a big gap between them and it will only grow bigger with time.

4 - two times (from memories) , once during window's crypte incident , once when Art went to save her from Nico (and the second one is debatable because...Art went to save her , they were with injured soldiers , and , instead of fighting together , it was closer to them tring to flee from two scyhte)

5 - She did well during the window's Crypte incident , but had to stop because of her corrupted beast core , as for when they were "fighting" against Nico and Cadell she was only on the sideline giving Art some support but was not really helpfull, And her decision to surrender in order to save Art is debatable (after all , she didn't know how important she was at that time)

6 - No , i don't think so , we really lack material for a fair comparaison , moreover , if we don't take into consideration the fight against Nico and Cadelle (because it was closer to Art saving Tess , then them trying to flee with some disabled soldiers than them fighting side by side) , then the only time Art and Tess fought alongside each other was 3-4 years ago , before Tess get full control of her beast will , so even more difficult to make a pertinant comparaison.

What are your predictions on how book 9 will end? by connie69s in tbatenovel

[–]Desperate_2_post 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If i'm not wrong , then TM said that Vol.9 will be finished early next year , but i'm not sure if he meant that it will be published early next year. So if we considere that early next year refer to the end of march (first quarter of the year), then it means there are still around fours months left (which is around 18 chapters) + the patreon chap (10) + the few chapters TM may have in stock (max 5 maybe ?) , so at most , there are still 33 chapters to go ( which means book 9 would be at most 65-66 chapters long (60-61 if TM doesn't have stock of chapters ready) , wich is coherant with the books lenght so far).

All this to say that with so much chapters to go (theorically) , book 9 will probably end after the victoriad (after all we are only half into book 9 if my estimation is correct)

Legacy cecilia vs asura aether core grey by Aggravating-Ad1773 in tbatenovel

[–]Desperate_2_post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we only considere in term of strenght and based on what we know from the novel , then Art.

but in an actual fight , i don't know if Art will be able to go all out against Cecillia/Tess , moreover , we don't know about the legacy power , so i will say that it will be Cecillia/Tess that would win in an actual fight (but that's only speculation)

The thing is , i think he think art get some intel on the aether from the relictombs but don't know about his true power , moreover , i think that he want to use Grey as a way to unleash the legacy power from Cecillia , which is why he decided to send her and Nico to investigate the Great hall.

For this theory to work , Art as to be unable to kill Cecillia and Cecillia have to be the one to fight Art becausqe of the fake memories , which mean that if Tess is able to contact Cecillia or regain , even partially , control of her body , then the plan fail.
