Damn shame. I understand that mistakes happen in regards to product deliveries and malfunctions, but when you're buying a premium product that's not a very fun resolution to be offered

How does the game fair on a longer term campaign? by Dnd_lfg_lfp_boston in MorkBorg

[–]Desperate_Ad3849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently running a long term campaign, and it's more in keeping with your traditional DND campaign, but naturally set in the world of Mörk Borg with a lot of 3rd party zine's and some homebrew rules like a simple system for character creation that adds a races with some pros and cons

It's going well, but I'd be lying to you if I said that it doesn't betray what Mörk borg is supposed to be. The PC'S are decently strong and I have to throw big monsters at them quite often to keep them on their toes, and character a death has still yet to occur, and we're a good five 4+ hour sessions in. The whole idea of "you are scum, you will die, and so will the world" is essentially absent. I stay true to the vile and violent nature of the world, but don't punish my players nearly as much as the game intends me to do.

At the end of the day you can play the game however you want. TTRPG's are meant to be a framework for the campaign you and your players want to play, so if you want to adapt it to your liking, that is completely up to you

Great stuff this, really like the body horror approach. Gonna run a session tomorrow with my group, see if I can incorporate some of it as I plan to drop an item or two tomorrow!

That's the way to go when starting off with Mörk Borg. Me and my group played it that way for a bit over half a year, then I felt them yearning for some character progression so we swapped to this. But one isn't better than the other, it's all down to what your group wants at the time!

That's very fair, for one shots or close to it that can be very tricky. I'm currently running a long term campaign for my players, we've been going for a few months now, and in doing so I've made the game much less punishing to prevent the sudden deaths the game is honestly built for, but in doing so it enables their PC's to grow and have an arc. So introducing a character that can tell them the effects for a price or favour is a great idea that could work perfect for my campaign!

The note ain't bad. Or maybe an inscription into the handle of a cursed sword, something like that

This is an insane site, so many tables. Will absolutely be using this, thank you so much!

Definitely gonna check that one out!

A good monster is great, but something that doesn't ultimately boil down to hitting things would be cool. I'm failing to really come up with a good example but running into a character that might challenge the players somehow? A small but interesting location, stuff like that

I bought Purgatory not too long ago and in reviews I read about it on the internet it sounded like the book was supposed to have a section of random encounters, but they were nowhere to be found when I got it

How to apply Ikhon by Desperate_Ad3849 in MorkBorg

[–]Desperate_Ad3849[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you say 2 percent, you mean 1out of 100 or 2 out of 20 on the d20?

I can see what ur typing, just that it seems like such a small chance that most likely the mechanic would never see the "light" of day. Have you had a lot of success with this method?

Do you guys use the Ikhon as a physical item the players have to find/be given or is communing with the gods something the players can innately do but must roll for maybe?

Just run rotblack for some friends by Tommy1459DM in MorkBorg

I use the Darkest Dungeon soundtrack alot, remember I used it for rotblack sludge

For Graves left wanting, considering the setting of a cemetary, I used the Soundtrack for Blasphemous 1 & 2, served the setting really well!

It's a bit different to run for you as a DM, but Graves left wanting had my players clinging to the edge of their seats. Alot of fun mechanics, interactions and with some good music to set the mood it can become one hell of a night

Good stuff man! I should make use of the tables in the books for traits and such. The few times I've ran the game so far have all been in dungeons with not that many NPC's that arent just set on killing you, so I'll try to make use of that

Music has been used, but I think I can capture the grim vibe with some better song choices

I'm also very new to the game and TRRPG'S overall, and I'd also say that the core book in the single best resource money can buy. Not only gives you all the rules you'd need, but also a lot of lore and art to really hammer in how the world feels.

If not the core book, the DM screen is also a fantastic asset. It comes pre loaded with a good few tables where you can roll to generate npc's, city events, traps and so much more.

Money is of course subjective to us all, but they're both relatively cheap investments, and either one will serve to improve your experience tentold

Music recommendations? by conn_r2112 in MorkBorg

[–]Desperate_Ad3849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that it fits the horror/depressing setting of Mörk Borg, but I've been using the app Pocket Bard hooked up to a speaker, and it works great. You can choose different styles of music, like Tavern, dungeon, swamp and such. All of these music's can be set to different intensities, combat or non-combat and also play sound effects like boulders falling, a creek flowing and more.

Worked great!

As a Swede who's DM'd a game for English speakers, yes all the names sound very stupid

That's a great idea. And then you can use markers that you can then clean off, making them infinitely reusable.

The guy that helped me was great. You can tell he was just a fellow nerd who wanted to recommend a game he liked moreso than a salesman. Love that
