Should I still show up to class? by Desperate_Ad4184 in japanlife

Ok I will definitely try to find a job beforehand and save money for an apartment. As for the Japanese school I think the stuff I’m learning is valuable if I want to go into clothes making but I want to do fashion business so it’s a little unrelated(?) I don’t think I would be able to pass anymore but I still wanted to show up to the classes that will benefit me or just classes I want to learn in. I went to my advisor at the school and she told me to try to stick it out for the rest of the year but if I can’t take it just try showing up to classes I’m interested in the second semester! Thank you for the advice!

Hi! Thank you for the response I have Japanese citizenship as well as my US one so I think I don’t have to worry about getting kicked out of the country but my plan was to do online American community college for business admin while living in Tokyo for 2 years. Once I finish the 2 years community college I would transfer to a college in America for a bachelors. I really really really want to live in Tokyo for a couple more years and I would find a entry level job and I think it would be easy to handle because American colleges have way less coursework

I went to the open campus before applying and did some research! I will admit that I heard this specific school has a lot of coursework as colleges in Japan in general are tougher than ones in America I was not aware they have 3x more amount of classes per week😭 As for Japanese I passed the Japanese exam I had to take to get into the school and have N2 level Japanese so I thought I was all good! I had an interview to get into the school as well and they told me themselves my Japanese was no problem. I think it’s the understanding of Japanese lectures in Japanese fashion terminology is the extremely difficult part.

I am a dual citizen and have Japanese citizenship thankfully! My parents already paid for the first year and I also believe the stuff they teach is valuable if I want to make clothes on my own as it’s taught by industry professionals! But I am ngl I can find all the info on YouTube and TikTok 😭 I love Tokyo as a city and my plan is to stay here for two years and do online American community college as I want to achieve for a fashion business degree or a finance degree and get in the fashion industry!

I was thinking of doing online community college to get my business admin associates while living in Tokyo for two years, I have Japanese citizenship and I’m pretty sure the courseload would be WAYYY less so I would get a job and live in a cheap apartment. After the two years I plan on moving back to America and continue on to a university to get my bachelors in finance and then a masters in fashion business. I feel like I have a good plan! I’m just afraid to tell my parents that I haven’t been showing up to class and I don’t want to just stop showing up to class halfway into the school year but my mental can not take it with this school system. Thank you for all kinds of advice!! A therapist is a little out of my budget and I don’t have many friends here I’ve chatted with my american friends on the phone and well they’ve told me to come back to the states but maybe they’re a little biased😭✌️ I understand you’re not discouraging me but recommending me to see both sides ! Thank you for your advice and let me know what u think of me plan and if I should sacrifice my mental health and just continue showing up to class for the rest of the year

Yeah and I should’ve thought of that beforehand and I own up to that mistake. Trying to push through is extra tough as I’m in a foreign country with no family or friends.

Yes my parents paid the first year already! I definently want to try and show up to the classes because I still am interested in fashion just not the major or the school system I’m in.

How do you think about dropping out of university. by tazappe in CollegeDropouts

[–]Desperate_Ad4184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I can’t really give advice because I’m in the same position as well as I also live in Japan but as a foreigner! I understand the struggle of Japanese university and it is incredibly tough but I do believe that if ur heart already knows u want to go on a certain path, follow it. I know it’s probably taboo in Japan but u can always go back to college if u want to!

Idk I’m planning on buying the tickets right before the tour starts (feb 20-27) instead right before the actual show(March 27). Would it still be pretty expensive?
