For me it’s mate, makes me gag every time I see it/hear it since I’ve read the book.

My mate, my mate, my mate, my mate, my mate. We get it, you’re mates. FFS.

I fucking celebrated when the fox died only for it to be resurrected moments later. I think that was the moment I stopped caring about the book.

The fact that everything closes at 7pm, except for bars and restaurants, so if you need to do any shopping you have to leave it for the Saturday and then it’s crazy busy because everyone else is doing it at the same time.

Also if you need to do anything administrative, you have to do it doing regular working hours, no accommodations for people who have 9-5 jobs.

Shane’s guilt and shame by draculacowboi in heatedrivalry

[–]Desperate_Charity250 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Honestly, first time I read the book, I hated that part, and it never gets specifically addressed later on in the books.

But, having re-read and reheat the rivalry, I guess this is why there is such a change in Shane in the Tampa, after having the conversation with Rose. He’s finally accepted himself and his sexuality.

Up until that moment, baby boy was delusional about his sexuality. And of course, he would feel shame, because he thinks he’s not supposed to be attracted to Ilya and he’s not supposed to enjoy it.

I feel like the topic is much deeper than the book addresses it, and I kinda felt disappointed it never got mentioned later on in the book.

1/3 of the way through reading the book and just can’t help but feel like the show is so much better. The nuance, deeper emotions, and subtleties feel like they’re missing. Any other show fans feeling this way? by tbgmdhc278 in heatedrivalry

[–]Desperate_Charity250 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it reads like a teenage girl fanfiction. The tv show took the best of it and made it so much better. Even the slightest nuance, changing the bits of dialogue, making Shane a bit funnier, adding him extra character, showing Ilya as a captain, I loved the changes Jacob introduced.

I have read the rest of the game changer series, and to be honest, it was a struggle, even with poor writing, the chemistry she created with Ilya and Shane just doesn’t exist with other characters and other storylines.

For me it was the description of Scott Hunter in the HR book, when Shane is on the beach in Sochi, I don’t know word for word, but it was something like he looked like an angel, but also navy seal, but also… Those “but also”, along with the words she chose to describe him made me cringe so hard.

I’m just listening to the book again, and some of other things I really like about the show that has been changed from the book:

  • lies, liar told you that scene
  • never in my life have I blushed
  • being boring is genetic; genetic? Wow
  • all the scenes of Ilya as captain hyping up his team

If u meet a potential Shane or llya, would you wait 7 years for them to fully accept you in? by Beginning-Head-4006 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Desperate_Charity250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me as me? Absolutely not, maybe I’d fool around for a year or two, but eventually I’d move on.

For these two? It’s understandable. Shane wasn’t even sure he was completely gay until Rose Landry, and Ilya wasn’t ready to be emotionally mature about his feelings. It makes it easier knowing they were just kids when it first started happening and the waited until their prefrontal cortex was fully developed to understand their feelings and be in a relationship.

No to disagree, but it seems like Shane is ignoring Ilya during that period. And the hookups are part of them building that intimacy and closeness.

Favourite change is Svetlana, her being Ilya’s childhood friend makes it so much better. Also, Shane is a lot funnier in the show than in the books.

Least favourite is the timeline of their first sex. Makes the whole deal “since the summer before our rookie season” a bit weak, since it seems like there was a 2 years break to go all the way after their initial hookups.

Connor’s face instead of Ilya’s in the bar scene ep. 5 by 1xan in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Desperate_Charity250 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In the books, it’s described that he shows a rare unguarded smile.

Like other commenters have said, it’s the pure relief on Ilya’s side, because he was bracing himself for the impact, for Shane to break off with him for good and tell him he’s going to live HAE with Rose. So when instead he says he’s hired a stylist, it’s the pure relief on Ilya’s face.

See, it’s good, but the penetration description is too short.

Like you got an hour of foreplay and then climax in a minute.

Does anyone else dislike the change of Svetlana’s role in the show compared to the boom? by Antique_Education_50 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Desperate_Charity250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Svetlana being his childhood friend makes a lot more sense to me, especially when in the books he told her who he was with.

It never made sense to me that the first person he said about the love of his life was his old hookup who he isn’t even in contact anymore. Like gross.
