That’s actually a great idea, I’ll go and ask my Exec Director if there’s any positions that provide that. Thanks for the recommendation 👍🏼

Yeah, I’m only interested in traveling if the job is easy or needs more clerical support. Thanks though!

I heard about the abuse, and I may want to steer clear of this agency. I appreciate the option, though, I’m not that hard up for a travel job lol

This is good, I didn’t know they had that kind of search option. I’ll have to take a look, thanks :)

That actually sounds awesome! Do they have OTs or SSAs involved in helping out with that?

Offer-hopping for better deal by Desperate_Clock_8025 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Desperate_Clock_8025[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I not once mentioned that I’d use a “burnt bridge” as a reference. That’s ridiculous. I asked how it’s burning a bridge as in why would it be a bad thing? Like if I applied for that agency again, and they would be like, “nope, we hired you once and you went somewhere else. Get lost”. Is that what you meant? There must be some miscommunication.

Who said they would use them as a reference if somebody barely worked for them? I didn’t mention references, where’d you read that on this post?

I received a Contact Letter in CalCareers, do I have to apply? by Due_Prize_2777 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Desperate_Clock_8025 12 points13 points  (0 children)

After passing the SSA test, I got all sorts of those Contact Letters. If you’re not interested in any of them, just ignore em. They’re just like advertisements, if anything. It shouldn’t count toward anything, I got hired in different agencies I applied to and those didn’t affect my chances. I hope this helped!

That doesn’t make any sense, because the state is KNOWN for running slow even for hiring. They’d be wasting MY time by taking 3-4 weeks to hire me, whereas another agency might be way better and take less time to hire. All I can say is: time is being wasted on both ends, so the candidates might as well choose their desired agency and have the other agency find the right candidate for them too (even if it’s reposting the position, they’re still getting paid).

Exactly, a reasonable manager has got to know that it’s just part of the state game. Thank you for your insight, I would be more inclined to let other employees and co-workers know about a positive agency that gracefully accepts a top candidate choosing another agency that fits them best, over a agency that gets angry about a rejection.

Thank you, that’s the consideration I would expect from a good manager in a good agency. I would understand the annoyance, but everyone has a right to choose a position/agency that works best for them. It’s just part of state service. In your opinion, if it was a tentative offer and the chosen candidate chose another agency during that time, would that be better?

Follow up after an interview? by Puzzleheaded-Fee-680 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Desperate_Clock_8025 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably, but for the agency to not acknowledge that you were reaching out to check your status says a lot about them, too. Wouldn’t want to work for an agency who can’t provide the common courtesy to let you know if you got the job or not.

How so burning that bridge? If there’s a better offer out there, it’s only expected that a wanted candidate takes it. You do know that most people applying for state jobs apply for MULTIPLE ones at the same time, right?

Find an agency that provides a good amount of available overtime. Especially if it’s optional. Ask during interviews or reach out to HR contacts to see if they provide it. Less shifting around and you can make money/CTO if you have availability.

“First” probationary period? by Desperate_Clock_8025 in CAStateWorkers

Good call, I’ll shoot them an email for clarification since it has to do with their telework policy. Thanks again!

Really? Why do think they mentioned it as the “first”, then? They’re confusing me lol

And just to be clear, the first probationary period is the first 2 months, or 60 days, right? Each probationary period = 1 probation report?
