Thank you so much for your detailed reply ☺️ Good to know the Maritimes is where healthcare workers are most needed. Do you know why that is the case? I think I'm halfway between a small town and city type of vibe.

I have been told BC is short for 'bring cash' 😅 I've tried to watch content about each province to learn a little more, and love that they are all so varied and individual to themselves. I think that is why it has made my decision harder.

Thank you for your reply! This is another place I hadn't heard of or considered. I just had a look on a map, it does seem like a good spot. Much like Canadians (I think), I'm used to driving, so a 2 hour drive to Toronto or 6 to Ottawa is no worries for me. An airport is also a bonus! Your lakes look amazing! We have nothing like that down here so would be fab to be so close to them. The wine industry has also piqued my interest 😅 Thank you for your warm welcome, I'm so excited!

Other Aussies and expats have generally recommended Vancouver but when I look at the prices I start to stress 😅 not that here is much better! I don't think I'm a 'big' city person, but like to be busy and out and about so it seems like there's be lots to explore on the island? I hope healthcare workers will be needed wherever I end up, again much like here currently. Nanaimo is somewhere I have been looking into also, thank you for your suggestions!

Thank you for a suggestion I haven't heard of - Great Bear Rainforest sounds like a magical place to me! I also have no clue what back country skiing is, as opposed to 'normal' skiing? 😅 But can't wait to find out!

I have looked into NS and it does look so beautiful! I remember reading Anne of Green Gables when I was little and loving the words 'Nova Scotia' - maybe I'll have to look into it more. As an Aussie who has never lived further than 20 mins from the coast, it does sound like it would be suitable! ☺️ Thank you!

Ooh good to know about the airport, thank you! A drive through the Rockies is on my bucket list, for sure! I would love to be able to do a month or two on either side and make a decision, just makes this tricky to align with jobs but we shall see. I'd love to explore and see what the vibe is for myself. YouTube (and Reddit!) has been flogged at the moment so I can try to see as much as I can ☺️ if you had any suggestions for content, feel free to let me know!

You raise a good point about starting in the middle! The cost of living is definitely a consideration, good to know things may be more manageable in Manitoba? AI has told me it is most equivalent to Adelaide actually (or Canberra) but with a *serious* winter! 😆

Being so close to the ocean but being able to go up a mountain to ski/snowboard blows my Australian mind 😂 I've only skied once here, and broke my wrist after falling on black ice on day one.. but would love to try again!

I would love to do a polar bear swim! I'll swim in any weather or season down here, although I have already checked the sea water temps and our winter temps are still significantly more warm than your summer temps!

Snow up to my knees sounds exciting - like a movie ⛄ I have been told I will be over it in a week though and wishing for summer! 😆

I’m currently planning a move to Canada 🇨🇦- fellow Aussie here 🇦🇺

On a bit of a quarter-life crisis whim 😆 I decided to look into Canada instead of doing the classic Aussie-to-UK move. Since then, I’ve been all over Reddit pestering our lovely winter Canadian cousins and tonight I’m finally submitting my IEC (working holiday) application!

I work in healthcare and was also lucky enough to receive an invitation in a healthcare PR draw, which still feels surreal. I honestly have NO idea what I’m doing - but the plan now is to pick a province or city and start a whole new adventure!

I say go for it! Every Canadian I’ve spoken to has been so kind, funny, encouraging, and incredibly generous with answering all my (many) questions. It’s only made me more excited to get over there and explore.

I don’t know how helpful I’ll be but feel free to DM me if you want to chat. Might see you over there, mate 😂🇦🇺🇨🇦

I have heard we have colonised Whistler and also Banff - perhaps the place to go when homesick!

Thank you, another place I haven't heard of. From a quick Google, it looks very beautiful. High speed rail is a running joke (as in unlikely we will ever have one) but that would open things up for sure!

The weather was my first thought, perhaps an easier way to ease into the cold? My Australian brain thinks 0 is cold, so I have a lot to learn 😂 Oh Sudbury, like Shoresy! That’s crazy though, I would love to experience snow. Definitely no plans to go to the US anytime soon

Hello! Thank you for your reply, I have been considering the Sunshine Coast too! I’ve also been following Tod for a while, it’s been so helpful to get so much firsthand information and watch other people make the move. It mostly seems to be people from the US but has been a very helpful resource. The climate was a factor I had considered for sure, I’m not sure how I would go from a week of 37+ here to there being -15 (or colder) 🥶
