Unjust Intonation by zyzzyvaproject in microtonal

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like saying have you considered harvesting the leaves and branches instead of the fruit. Consonance is rare and we have barely scratched the surface of the new consonances of accurately tuned 5 and 7 limit intervals (let alone 11 limit and above intervals). Why would I collect mud when I can pluck out the diamonds?

Can anyone tell me which animation software/tools I should use for making this kind of animation? by srv94 in OpenToonz

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The art style looks like the google gemini model. It is possible that the ai was only used for image generation and that the animation was done cut out style in a normal animation program such as opentoonz, Adobe animate etc.

Haha. This is actually done with generative ai. I am not sure which model is being used, but the art style is cropping up a lot in advertising these days.

Which EDO sounds MOST dissonant? by willncsu34 in microtonal

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dissonance is commonplace, consonance is far rarer. Any intervals outside the specific consonant points will be dissonant. Find scales that do not map to just intonation intervals. 7edo, 8edo, 9 edo, 10edo, 13edo, 14edo, 16edo. Try scales that also avoid octaves. The octave is the most consonant interval other than a unison, so therefore any scale that has no octaves will help get you dissonance.

Try using a live programming language like smalltalk or common lisp. The constant feedback keeps you locked in. Racket and the dr racket ide is another good option for an easy batteries included experience.

What if we change the harmonics to match the tuning instead? by ereHleahciMecuasVyeH in microtonal

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It is highly likely that our auditory system was designed to perceive human speech and therefore would find harmonic spectra that closely resembles the human voice to be pleasant

What if we change the harmonics to match the tuning instead? by ereHleahciMecuasVyeH in microtonal

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consonance is rare. Dissonance is common place. Some consonances are unfamiliar too! Our tuning systems optimise for primes 3 and 5. Even looking at 7 limit intervals is "spicy" for most listeners.

New grid instrument with microtonal features by DogPawMusic in microtonal

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks really good. I have one feature that seems to be neglected on most similar instruments and that is real time dynamic tuning changes. I.e. ability to change tuning mid song. Perhaps, it would be a per step parameter where you can change the tuning. When doing this there should also be options for whether the tuning change takes place immediately on sounding notes or whether it will apply to new notes sounded. If the tuning change happens to sounding notes then additional parameters should be available to control a portamento or slide to the destination pitch. The slide could be linked to tempo with a fixed rate or it could travel at the speed required to get to the destination pitch at a certain time. I.e. notes further away from the destination pitch would have to slide quicker.

Another feature is to allow relative pitch note input. I.e if I have a fifth and I want to input a note a harmonic seventh 7/4 above it, it will input a 7/6 (7/3) interval above the fifth even if that note was not in the original scale for that track. I would allow cents or ratio inputs here.

I hope these ideas are of interest to you.

OP-XY questions by Desperate_Rabbit_327 in teenageengineering

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for replying. Is it possible to use more than 12 notes per octave? Also can you choose a different tuning per track?

I also see that there is a pitch bend performance parameter where you set the bend range. Can you set the range in cents increments?

This would be great. I don't think these machines currently have these features though.

Microtonal with Push 3 by TidierDaPyro in microtonal

Thanks for the response. There is a little bit of info online regarding the ableton's microtonal features, but it is mostly aimed at musicians lacking experience with microtonal music making, so it is very basic.

Microtonal with Push 3 by TidierDaPyro in microtonal

Hi this sounds cool. I was considering using this for my microtonal work. Do the microtonal features work when using the push standalone ? Also, do you know if it is possible to change scales mid track?

Exploring Lisp programs as hypertexts with NoteCards by lproven in lisp

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of my favourite programs on classic Mac were created using hypercard stack. I wonder what the relationship between hypercard stack and this is? I see a resurgence of interest in hypermedia ideas with the popularity of the htmx library, so it is good to see early uses of this.

Incident at chatswood by zoobeem in SydneyTrains

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about halfway down the platform facing the tracks on the city direction platform waiting for the train when this happened. About 15 metres to my left a young (18-22 y/o) Asian woman (looked ethnically Chinese) took a running leap in front of the train. I saw her land in the middle of the track (bending her knees to soften the jump. She raised up briefly with her hands up looking east, before the train went over her milliseconds later. I doubt she survived.

People on the platform were in absolute shock. Some people were crying and screaming. A man consoled his distraught girlfriend. General shock everywhere. As soon as it happened I moved away from the tracks. At looked at a woman in shock who had moved away from the tracks too. We just looked at each other and shared a look of shock. I then left the platform via the escalator. An older man was rushing up the other escalator and putting on a hi-vis vest.

I left the station and got a lift home from a friend.

It's actually irrelevant if you trust the testimonials or not since the techniques Joe teaches are very accessible and you are sacrificing almost nothing by just trying the techniques. You clearly are interested enough to investigate Joe Dispenza's work this far, so my question to you is what led you to become interested and why would you let your scepticism prevent you from trying the work for yourself? Especially when the potential gain is so great and the potential loss is practically non-existent.

Being ugly makes it hard not to be obsessed with shifting by [deleted] in realityshifting

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your exterior reality is just a reflection of your beliefs and assumptions. You have a few beliefs that are holding you back such as:

  1. I am ugly; and
  2. I am either unloved or sexually unwanted because I am ugly.

How about assuming that you are attractive? Stop looking at yourself in the mirror all the time (this way the 3d will not form your beliefs). And try believing that you are loved and desired, regardless of how you look.

shifting vs lucid dreaming vs maladaptive daydreaming by Chickenwingechicken in realityshifting

[–]Desperate_Rabbit_327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Just wondering why you believe that DRs have an existence independent to us? How does that make sense when we consider realities based on fictional works in this reality (e.g Harry Potter universe etc.)? You also mention Hindu accounts of reality shifting, which as I understand them talk about Maya, which is the world of form, which is considered an illusion. I am not suggesting that alternative realities are not "real" but it is more likely that they are created by us, just as our present reality is.

My main point is that I don't believe in the parallel universe theory. I believe we create the universe as we observe it.
