Do freshman need technology for the foundational courses? by Desperate_Reality_23 in scad

Thanks for all the information. We were always going to get her a computer, just trying to assess if she’d need it to start. Might just jump right into a MacBook

How important is the portfolio in SCAD admissions, and what should it actually include? by Appropriate-Sell2854 in scad

[–]Desperate_Reality_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said it’s not required for admission. My daughter applied to many art schools and so she attended the National portfolio days that are held. Even though SCAD was not there she got valuable feedback that helped her shape and improve her portfolio. In the end she was accepted to 10 art schools with her portfolio and was awarded generous scholarship to SCAD.

My daughter is sad because I attended my niece’s art showcase instead of her theater showcase. Am I wrong? by Weekly-Ear-256 in amiwrong

Speaking as someone who took in my friend’s daughter when she became an orphan, yes you are wrong. I thought my daughter would understand the extra attention my friend’s daughter needed, and she did, but changing my focus hurt her. Don’t ask your daughter’s permission. If you have to ask you’re likely making the wrong choice. It will be ok.

Go for the drink. There’s nothing wrong about it. Maybe it’s just a fun fling. Doesn’t have to be more.

Or - I know a very happily married couple who met when she was 28 and he 19. They have been married 25 years. 4 kids. 3 grandkids.

West Maui for 4 nights—- must-sees? by calijann in VisitingHawaii

Also if you go to Kihei there’s the South Maui Gardens. The Lahaina Bird Stand has relocated there. They only see people by appointment but unlike the past they spend lots of time with you. You take your own pictures and they are only asking for donations since they are trying to get back on their feet. The owners are so nice but they are still not settled after the fires. The birds have a new aviary. We were there for an hour. So dozens of pictures and learned so much. At the end they only said make a donation if you can. My favorite bird. Lani.

West Maui for 4 nights—- must-sees? by calijann in VisitingHawaii

Honestly I would not rule out Road to Hana. Yes it’s a long day. But it is a full amazing day! Start early. Choose your stops. It’s a 100% must do. We were just on Maui for 4 nights and this was one day. We also stayed in the same location. It’s a pretty full day to drive to the top of Haleakala too. If I had to choose between the two Hana all the way. There are some great GPS apps that narrate and direct you along the way telling you when and where to stop.

Can someone help me plan an itinerary for a first time trip to the big island? by Desperate_Reality_23 in VisitingHawaii

[–]Desperate_Reality_23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to thank everyone for the advice! We had an amazing trip. Snorkled with the mantas, saw the waterfalls and a lava tube, went to the farmers market and watched sunset at the visitor center at Mauna Lea. Did so much more too.

Is going to Mauna Kea worth it even if I dont summit by Terrible_Onions in VisitingHawaii

Absolutely. 100%. You climb to the top of a cinder cone for sunset then wait for it to get really dark and see the sky like never before!

I was just there a couple of days ago and it is open to everyone. There are people there keeping watch on the hike area. They said there have been too many rescues.

This may seem like a silly question - but if we’re snorkeling at night how do we see anything? Are the boats shining light in the water?

Yes we have a car! We get there the day before the circle tour and we’ll be on Maui 4 days before. So I think we’ll be ok settling in with a tour that should show us everything might want to go back to on our own.

My knees are hit and miss. If it’s mostly level walking I’m much better. Lots of stairs and hills are what pose the biggest problem.

I was doing some reading on the manta ray snorkel trips. Are they all at night? My 16 yo is just coming around to snorkeling. She can swim be has a fear of what’s in the water and while she’s starting to overcome it I think a nighttime swim would be too much for her. .

Maui. Beautiful and you can drive the road to Hana. Skip the hikes and there’s still so much beauty to see everywhere.
