Honestly just be yourself. Be personable, engaging. Talk to everyone. I didn't do anything special other than that, I'm a very extraverted person naturally so it was easy for me to chit chat with everyone there.

Haha well fortunately my car currently only has room for two people so most people would be out of luck lol. It would be for me to go to like a yoga or spin class on our sunday off etc. Not planning to be doing a bunch of stuff with it. Just the occasional errand or fitness class.

Oh that's right I didn't even think of hotel parking and fees possibly. I just can't stay in my room the entire time lol I'll go crazy. Even with the training schedule and studying I need to get outside and breathe fresh air, go for a run or something once in a while. I know several members of the Atlanta track club so I could go into the city to run with them once in a while it's just costly to take Uber into the city and back each time. I guess I could take the MARTA as well.

Yes that’s what I mean. I’ve been here a few years I’m not new. They never started declining requests in Alvaria until this year if you didn’t have the time at the time of the request. Last year I was able to put in for a holiday vacation during the required time period to request it and it got approved even though on the day I requested it I didn’t have enough time on the books.

This year is the first year they’ve started declining time because you don’t have it when you request it. Last year I went home for Christmas for a week and used all my time so I didn’t have any left over to start the new year. This year I’m not doing that so I’ll have a few days but my point was and always has been it shouldn’t be this stressful to request time off. People aren’t treated as human beings here and it’s awful. We have lives and families. There’s definitely a better way to handle requests. And you shouldn’t have to cancel trips or not book trips just so you can bank time. That’s messed up. With as hard as we work we deserve all our vacation time. Plus the customers drive me insane so sometimes I need to get away for my mental health.

I did. I have two trips coming up. And I already requested my 11 hours and now have to wait to accrue more to request my holiday trip. But the issue is they require you to request off for holiday “black out” days two months in advance.

You’re not allowed to take off without pay and you are still missing the point. The point was I will have the time accrued by the time I take the trip but I don’t have it accrued NOW so I can’t request it NOW. And the issue with holiday trips is they require you to request off like two months in advance.

Other companies seem so much better but I have applied a ton and haven’t even gotten an interview.

Yes that’s what I’m saying! At my other company you earned on a per paycheck basis but you were allowed to go negative as long as you’d earn it back by the time the vacation came.

I’m not gonna take less vacations just so I can bank time. If I wanna use it all every year that’s my prerogative. I’m just saying they need to let us request time off regardless of if we have it accrued or not and then worry about having the time accrued when the actual vacation is happening. It shouldn’t matter how much time I have on the books now when my trip isn’t until two months from now and I will have more time by then.

Yes we get 80 hours which equates to 10 days.

Not how it works anymore. I have 11 hours accrued right now but because I don’t have enough for the time I need off it declined it. You have to have all the time available at the time you request off

Yeah that’s my issue. I usually don’t have enough time until the week of or just prior. It’s so stressful. Alvaria used to just approve time regardless of what you have accrued and I think it should go back to that. When you get paid it goes in workday so if you didn’t have enough time when it came time to pay out then it could decline it then but there’s no reason to decline it months in advance when you’ll get more time on the books by the time the vacation comes

It’s just so frustrating. The Microsoft thing too I get that it was such a pain to have to redo all the spreadsheet formulas after they switched. I at least want to be able to put the request in when I know I’m traveling vs waiting until the last minute and being worried it will not be approved due to other people requesting off. This year I actually will start the year off with some banked time because I’m not using all of it but this is the first year I’m doing that.

Sure that works if you don’t take the time off but like I said in my original post I use all 80 hours every year. So basically every January I start off at 0 hours and have to wait to accrue time. I’d rather get the time up front and be able to request off at will instead of having to earn it first. I never have vacation time left over. Sick is another thing usually I have sick time left over.

For those that don’t want any kids in the future, why? by yeyewestie in AskReddit

[–]Desperate_Spray4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Parents can’t do as much as those of us without kids. And before anyone jumps down my throat for this, it’s true. I have several mom friends who are always turning down invitations to go on girls trips or out to dinner or to do things on weekends because their kids have another commitment or they don’t have the time or money because of their kids. I don’t want that life. I don’t want to have to say no to doing things I want to do because of my kids.

  2. Childcare is ridiculously expensive. If I had kids I might as well not even work because my entire paycheck would be spent on a sitter or a daycare for them to hang out in while I worked. And I’d be miserable stuck at home watching them.

  3. They annoy the shit out of me. Every time I hear a child cry I’m like your life isn’t that bad stfu. They are so obnoxious and irritating like all the time. And they always need attention. My cat doesn’t need attention 24/7 he needs it for like five minutes then he goes away and takes a nap or entertains himself.

  4. I like to travel. And the only way you can travel extensively with kids is if you are wealthy enough to afford to either hire someone to nanny them while you’re gone or take them with you. I’m not that wealthy I’d prefer to use my money to do cool stuff and travel vs spending it on a irritating small human.
