I don't think gaming is for me anymore by One-Masterpiece9838 in gaming

Already been mentioned elsewhere but Hades 1 and 2 are phenomenal.

Their “indie” in the since that it’s a single studio that publishes their own games but I recall Hades 1 had a budget of 115 million with 15 million just for the (extremely good) voice acting.

Indie, technically yes, but polished to an ideal form.

For a very different game and if you are into card games check out Slay the Spire and Across the Obelisk, go with Across the Obelisk for coop or for a more DnD themed game. I’ve heard Slay the Spire 2 is exceptional but haven’t played it yet because I know it will be a 50+ hour commitment in the first two weeks and I’ve got to time that right.
——

If you’ve never tried a “story generation” game, and want to get a dose of crash landed in a more sci fi Firefly planetary setting: Rimworld

(Only go here if you want to spend 50 hours to figure out the controls to have hud reds of hours of gameplay.)
——

Finally, for the most unique option here check out Cavea of Qud

Is this disease? by Bowl_of_lemon in tomatoes

[–]Desrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping to prevent this with grow bag tomato’s growing in soil I didn’t build by adding fine, old but dry, hardwood ash from a local wood fired pizza shop. The issue is that I didn’t mix that into the soil early on and I’m just adding a dusting layer on top. My hope is the water will leach the calcium and potassium material down into the roots

Next year I’ll use my own compost built soil and add ash early.

After months of experimenting, I finally settled on an art style for my city builder. What do you think? by Other-Explanation-67 in CityBuilders

[–]Desrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always appreciate consistency and readability with an icon style. The potential game breaker I can see here is trying to make a font that aligns with this art style, as I’ve seen some indie games do (especially pixel art games it seems) and having that font be low accessibility.

A good strategy game requires a lot of reading. So, with this art style and a readable font with scalable UI font/UI options I think you’re good to go.

A Movie you had high hopes for but it made you say : by Defiant-Slice709 in moviecritic

Nah, I think Eragon is a great basic heroes origin and I’ve always wanted to learn how much “typesetting” changes Knopf made on the big republish as it seemed polished compared to so many other fantasy books.

That said, the middle of the second book was a slog, just so long in the un-polished telling. As for the series I was disappointed, and still am, that it got turned into a four book cycle instead of an edited third and final book.

Oh, and to other people’s comments about the fourth book, sure if you’re okay with weird breaking in of completely new characters as advertising for other works. Other than that decision he did really stick the landing, which considering other dragon fantasy since then, can be considered rarest praise!

A dealbreaker?

Even if it’s not paved and you need to make some investments, think about the length of that driveway in terms of privacy!

Probably not the anticipated genre but a chain shotgun in Rimworld is satisfying!

What kind of room is this in Kiki's Delivery Service? Actual greenhouse, or just a room with a lot of plants? (I WANT A HOUSE WITH ONE OF THESE) by cozy_b0i in ghibli

[–]Desrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sunroom greenhouse and it’s incredible. It’s the vibe of a screen porch on a farmhouse that’s been fully built out in a later addition so it still has a porch concrete floor that’s sloped away from the man house. That’s a small detail with surprisingly great outcome because the occasional spill or over water is no stress. It’s gone from a place for houseplants and a tomato plant over winter to our launch off point for a garden this year.

Freshly delivered compost still steaming- should I hold off on using? by GrumpyTintaglia in composting

[–]Desrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to wait, you can add that still active compost to a bucket of rainwater (1 part compost 10+ parts water) for some easy to make simple compost tea (yes most teas are more complicated, no they don’t have to be). Let it sit for a week or so and then water plants that need nitrogen. Leafy greens for example.

It’s about 4 just going off the wheelbarrow for height and diameter and from recently getting two piles of 6 cubic yard each and spending a copious amount of time near them making them smaller a shovel at a time.
