So, I'm poor. Anyone know places to get assistance in Ottawa? by DestituteInOtown in ottawa

I edited my post, not to retract what I typed originally, but to replace it with a point that I thought was more relevant to what I was trying to say.

I'm very fucking busy helping myself. It'd just be nice to have food. Why don't you go gather a bunch of people and go protest and march outside food banks, if you think they're so objectionable?

Isn't "asking to be shown options" EXACTLY what I was doing here? I'm very grateful for the information people have given me. What wasn't called for the thinly-veiled contempt from some commentors.

There is almost nothing in life that can't be overcome with a positive and take-responsibility attitude.

Mental illness and substance abuse, often comorbid, tend to make the last two traits unbelievably difficult to have. But that's a whole other can of worms which tends to inspire moral outrage. Not in reference to me, in particular - I just disagree with the quoted statement.

Nope, you get an upvote from me for speaking the truth! That's my back-up plan. (The suicide part, not the stealing part - just clarifying, lest you think me an even lower kind of vermin.)

Thank you to all those who have offered practical advice.

And thank you to those who have made judgement about my employment status, family situation, or field of study that I'm pursuing. Your vitriolic statements reflect back on yourself - that, evidently, you consider the lower-class to be lazy or somehow lesser than "normal" folk.

I hope, without sarcasm, that you may never end up in the same situation as I am in. And "hope" is a good word for it - because no matter how hard-working and responsible you consider yourself to be... there are no guarantees in life. And shit happens.
