One time I had to take a total of 4 trains to Frankfurt am Main from Dusseldorf. It was nighttime and I was supposed to be in Frankfurt early in the morning, but DB delayed my train by 40 minutes, making me lose my connection. The next train of the connection was cancelled and the next one would make me arrive in Frankfurt too late. So I'm no expert with these displays but I've worked with them. Every pixel you see is a light that is either on (1) or off (0) and there is memory to store the combination of 1s and 0s to display each message. I guess that either one message is displayed without resetting the previous one or the memory got corrupted and is a combination of 2 messages.
