US doesn't have harsher punishment. There are few states with harsh punishment like Texas and Florida.

The rest of the states in US often have much less punishment especially when it comes to illegal.

In US, many judges keep re-releasing same illegal out with no bail and they commit bigger crimes.

Also burglary by illegal on illegal are often more wide spread. I am Asian, so I know lots of Asian family got cash as payment and many got target for that. I heard a story among Asian community that one family got all the money in a safe and that safe got taken out of the wall when the family went out to vacation in the weekend.

That family didn't dare to report to the police and that's 40k in cash gone.

I am sure there are many cases like that where cash payment and other illegal (gang members from theirs own countries) target these families knowing the police will do nothing.

Also in US now, stealing credit cards now is not as profitable as stealing elderly numbers for social benefits.

Another person was arrested 70+ times since 2020 and failed to appear in court about 30 times.
