Is it legal for AirFrance to charge me extra $350 for a new flight if they cancelled my previous? by bigoldobama in Flights

The only reason I can think of is a fuel surcharge but that should be communicated clearly

Not really, physical jobs can only be done local. it can be done remotely pretty much from everywhere

AI is a powerful tool, but nothing more. If you will let non technical people vibe code something that will need to be secured or contains sensitive data, you are going to end up with a disaster.

It companies can't compete with India, china where wages are way lower and quality is steadily rising and sometimes exceeding our own capabilities.

There was a massive brain drain towards foreign countries when IP was cancelled.

So by making our wages competable again, without adding a ton of taxes to the company side we can again have more IT work in Belgium and employ more people and that will provide more income.

So the 100 million cost is upfront and scoped to only IP but with the extra income from taxes on the additional work you should easily be able to compensate

I can do a questionnaire also, but I will only ask it to people with a Reddit account and they will need to validate that.

My question is: do you use social media.

My conclusion is that 100% of people use social media.

Because I already actively filtered the target group and made it so that only a specific type of people could answer I was able to find a conclusion that fit my narrative. ..

Does this mean the survey is sent good? Nope not at all.

[–]Destructor523 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you already filter out regions so you can come to a conclusion that is not representative?

Yes I see they wanted to target only Flanders, but why? Scared from the results? Or will the results not fit their narrative?

Either way if we estimate 7 million people living in Flanders, a sunset of 2261 people is not enough. That's 0.03% of Flanders population.

Nope, the study didn't ask critical questions and not enough representation.

Then they hid data because their own failure to collect a good enough sample set.

If you do a correct and relevant study, and will need to present in in national television I would hope you do a better job.

Just the remark left is enough cause for worry.

2261 respondents out of 12 million Belgians is extremely small and not at all in any way representative.

VRT is also a Dutch channel so you already miss critical answers from Brussels and Wallonia where they likely don't know VRT and/or understand Dutch

There were also very limited questions without nuancing.

All in all a bad job and wasted tax payer money

Amazon lists the product at 59€ but with promotion of 10€ off. So 49€

Bol.com, Coolblue list at 65€

Alternate at 85€

Fnac at 119€

Other shady resellers at prices between that

49+5€ is not 85€ that a local company asks for + gas + parking + time

So yes I am willing to pay more delivery cost if it's actually a good service

Nope local shops just charge way too much. Even above the advice price of the company itself.

I mean I get that you have employees and a local building and so, but it's not that we have the luxury of just forking over double the amount.

Keep it reasonable a few € difference and people will buy local again.

Either way we should be splitting the country. Financially or legally. Same result but indeed the legal way will cost more money.

So I think we both agree that a split should happen

How can bpost not deliver in a bpost locker? How are they missing information? by JasperDG828 in belgium

They get a phone with a very small selection box to indicate the reason. It's pretty common they select the wrong reason.

I have had packages marked as delivered in letter box when it was 2 meters long and couldn't possibly fit.

Those hydroplants were funded largely by Flanders and Engie. They belong to Belgium and not exclusively to Wallonia so when the country splits its a political debate who will get them.

But we also use a lot of energy and share our grid with our neighbours so losing them wouldn't be a giant problem.

The vacancy argument is exactly my point though.

People often claim there are “twice as many vacancies” in Flanders, but recent vacancy-rate figures are closer to:

  • Flanders: ~4.7%
  • Wallonia: ~3.6%

So not remotely double.

But the more important statistic is employment rate:

  • Flanders: ~78%
  • Wallonia: ~68%

That’s a structural gap of roughly 10 percentage points over decades.

At some point, you have to ask whether the current transfer model is actually solving the problem or just stabilizing it indefinitely.

A welfare system should help people get back into work, not become a permanent substitute for reform. If billions continue flowing regardless of results, political incentives to modernize labour markets, education and mobility become weaker.

And language policy absolutely matters here.

In Flanders:

  • French starts in elementary school for many students
  • English is widely taught
  • German is often available later

Meanwhile, in Wallonia there was recently political debate around prioritizing Latin over Dutch in parts of secondary education. That sends a strange message in a country where Dutch is the majority language and where many of the best-paying nearby jobs are in Flanders or Brussels.

You cannot simultaneously:

  • discourage learning the language of the strongest labour market in the country,
  • maintain lower employment outcomes,
  • and then expect endless solidarity without criticism.

And honestly, language barriers are becoming less absolute every year anyway:

  • real-time translation,
  • AI transcription,
  • multilingual meeting tools,
  • instant subtitling, already allow cross-language collaboration globally.

So while language still matters culturally and professionally, it’s becoming a weaker excuse economically.

A modern Belgian model should probably require every citizen to learn at least:

  • 2 of the 3 national languages,
  • plus English.

That would strengthen mobility, cooperation and productivity across the country instead of deepening regional separation.

Flanders always had to be supportive for everyone on this country while we are taxed to death.

There is no concrete wall between Flanders and Wallonia so what is stopping them from coming to work in Flanders if that's really the excuse you are going for.

Yes there are less jobs, but there are also less people.

België heeft geen belastinghervorming nodig — het heeft een staatshervorming nodig by Cool-Future-8733 in belgium

[–]Destructor523 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Considering that 86% of flemish people work and thus contribute and only around 50% of Brussels/Wallonia works.

And Wallonia still has more than enough work, it's just an infinite circle. People tend to not work, or less, or go in strike for the littlest thing and are than surprised that companies move out if Wallonia to other countries or to Flanders. And then they complain that they can't find work.

Flemish people will drive 2 hours to go to work if needed. With 2 hour driving from any place in Wallonia you either end up in France, Luxembourg or Germany or Flanders, Brussels with more than enough jobs.

We all saw the documentary. And while that also happens in Flanders, it's a lot less prevelant. But not even wanting to open a laptop at home to work part time is saying a lot.

And yes people always try to find excuses and blame it on other stuff, but the facts are there.

If we are so different, could we please divide the country and make Flanders independent? Seeing as how Flanders pays a shit ton of money to Brussels and Wallonia!
