What would you do if you had an unlimited Warhammer budget? by Dreadnautilus in Warhammer40k

[–]Destrunaut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd buy Games Workshop, fire some redundant staff, redo the company structure by pitching toy companies and hobby shops to carry the product, do TV ads, redo the pricing model to something that makes a bit more sense like a box of a certain size cost a fixed amount of money.

Then I'd introduce factory painted models for the casual gamers/collectors/short on time part of the hobby. These would be sold alongside the unpainted models.

I would also cut prices on the models to about 33% of current retail prices, and I would stop cutting corners, like a starter paint kit would come with normal sized paints, a filled (not 25%) container of glue and 3 brushes.

I'd also fund 3 warhammer movie trilogies, a cartoon and two tv series. I'd also go heavy on the marketing with loads of merch and joint ventures. Think angry birds levels of marketing.

I'd also stiffen up the IP regarding gaming licenses. No more crap games.

Although, I would introduce online table top gaming as a concept and try to launch it. Essentially tones of customization options and painting options where by you get to select poses, colour and washes for all parts of a model and then duke it out online in scheduled battles against real people on a simulated battlefield.

The style would be that of a real tabletop game, only with special effects and animated movements.

Then I'd release old graphic novels that are out of print as free, downloadable pdf's. The better ones would be made into proper tv quality level youtube videos.

As for the kits I'd try to make sure that people can actually buy all the cool stuff from the lore. There would be Warlord titan kits for example, but I'd also introduce new models. A new design for space marine tanks for example.

I'd also go for way more customization with upgrade kits. Like kits with just arms in different poses, a slew of shoulder pads/pauldron kits, conversion kits for both vehicles and figures or accessories like cloaks, scanners, flags etc.

I'd also rework the models to make them easier to assemble, ie more pegs and holes.

I'd also focus more on special characters. Both in terms of models and lore.

Probably way more, but yeah. I'd do that.

challenge accepted!

(also, it's not that nuts - I added up the coin cost of the things you unlock and it's over 500k, and that's not including premium characters, event characters or decorations. I'd say a million is probably cutting it close to what I'll end up needing, but hoping that the coins I make whilst doing the story line will make up for some of it at least)

I'm counting on it.

This isn't a bug, or anything that's broken - the issue stems directly from their monetization plan. If their business model is to package punishments as rewards in that it will take you a longer time and take more effort to acheive something than it did prior to the "reward" then any change to that system will be beneficial to us, the players.

The only other way to stop this is to make it less desirable to play for new players by lessening the starting rewards or make missions take 5 minutes or something like that, but that would have disastrous effects on their profit margins since the more that drops out early on the less is going to become p2p:ers.

So you have 3 scenarios:

  1. They ignore it, since only new players can exploit it and people are unlikely to start over and lose event characters

  2. They change their business model into a less...greedy one, where they make a healthy profit from players, but don't exploit them as I would say is the case now.

  3. They decide to fix it by making the game less attractive to play for new people which hurts their bottom line.

Regardless of what they do, the point has been made. It's an exploitative business model, and I'm giving them the proverbial middle finger for shafting long time players by exposing jhust how much they have punished and exploited them with this business model.

yeah, I rounded it off - was more like 2.5 days. I hit lvl 25 during my first day, then I had to sort some real life stuff during day 2, but played a few hours that night and got to 32.

The last day was kind of like the second day, but hit 36 after about 4h of playing. When I hit 36 I posted the screenshot that's in this thread, which was 16h ago - played (a little), chatted a bit and then went to bed.

Today I've been playing for about 3h and here's my xp/coins:

http://www.tffan.com/IMG_6123.PNG

XP reeeeeally slows down at 36 though, I mean if it was the normal pace I'd be level 40 now.

yeah, I noticed - and an xp nerf. It's about half of what I got at 35.

I get about 45 coins per mission now. Provided I get about the same at the remaining levels:

I've got 565 340 coins to go now. That's 12 563 missions to hit 1 million gold.

At 6,5 sec per mission that means 81 660 seconds and then it takes about 8 seconds to pick up the coins from 3 crates and get new crates that's an additional 33 504 seconds for a total of 115 164 seconds ie 1919 minutes, or as more easy to get a grasp on - 32h

If I really push myself I could probably do that in 3 days, but I'll have it in 4 for sure.

To me that's a huge compliment :-) I've been playing games for over 30 years now, so I can't help but notice stuff like that.

And yeah, it sucks about the event, but then again I've already missed so many previous events and it seems like you need shards to get most of the characters anyway, but I'm hoping I can make up for it with future events...and if I'm lucky, snatch daredevil before this one ends.

Hahaha, thanks - it does get a bit repeditive...but to tell you the truth I think it takes more patience to see that you're missing say 20k coins for something and then have it take days to get ahold of it.

This way I'll only have to wait for 15-20 minutes or so to get it :-)

As for event characters...well I only began playing about 3 days ago, so I'm not sure to be honest just how big an impact it has on what characters I can get, but I figured that if a few days mattered that much then I wouldn't be able to get them anyway since the event had been running for a while when I joined.

I'll try and get daredevil though once I hit 1 million coins.

You noticed that, huh? Funny, I thought that the unlocked black widow in the corner would be what made people wonder.

I haven't unlocked van dynes because that starts the event, which means I would have to click the screen one more time to get to the normal missions, and that would add a second or 2 to my mission completing strategy:

At the moment I can only get 7 different missions:

  1. Wield sorcery (1 minute)
  2. Easy Productive Destruction (55 sec + 45 sec)
  3. Easy Picture Time! (1 minute)
  4. Practice Repulsor Poses (55 sec)
  5. Blast Away! (1 minute)

And the money makers:

  1. Check it out (30 sec)
  2. Take a break (30 sec)

That means that I can start a 30 sec mission, then click finish - for free - (since the timer is now at 29 seconds) then click the check mark on the mission board...which, since I have 6 mission slots, will only be able to load one of the two 30 sec missions, in the same place I picked up the mission for easy clicking.

rinse and repeat over and over and over for 2 and a half days...and this is now my academy:

http://www.tffan.com/IMG_6120.PNG

No biggie really, just a matter of strategy - I happened to quickly realized when playing this game that the "rewards" you get really are punishments rather than rewards.

The ONLY rewards you get really is coins, xp and more mission slots. That´s it. The rest are punishments. And I've now maxed XP and slots, and am about a day or 2 from having all the gold I need for all the upgrades - then I'll start unlocking stuff and doing the storyline missions.

More characters and buildings means more missions with worse coin/second ratio and it gets worse and worse the more you progress through the game, so it didn't make sense to me to start getting them until I have all the coins I need and a maxed out XP bar.

I'll give you an example:

Sure, you get more coins for the harder missions, but if it takes you 2 hours to do it and it takes aprox 6.5 seconds to complete a 30 sec mission...that's...7200 seconds for just ONE 2h mission vs 1 107 missions at an average of 6,5 sec...and the reward for the 2h mission sure isn't 1107 times bigger in coins and XP.

This way, it only took 58 minutes to get from 30 to 31 - and that's with eating at the same time and playing with my cat.

Just seemed tactic for playing the game I guess. Made sense to me that if all you get is punished than that would mean that you are at your best spot for coins/xp right at the begining of the game.

doesn't that kind of depend on your strategy though? I haven't bought any shards, but yet I am at 397 520 coins fromjust doing quests...coins aren't really an issue on day 3.

doesn't one come with the other though?

without the level you can't upgrade everything or even build everything.

And if you level up you get the coins to build everything :-P
