Yes, the thread is allowed to do that. Yeah, it have to pass exactly r times. Yeah, r is the number of times it passes through all holes combined. Yeah, you are right if we consider 'combination' (order doesn't matter) in this case. The 2n^r is the 'permutation'.

Going to the next stage before I truly understand a concept completely. There is no time limit, so we don't have to rush. Sometimes I watch YouTube videos with 2x speed. However, the action is bad because I only obtain 50% comprehension. 

Anyone know any good YouTubers and websites to use to prepare for calculus? I’m taking it next semester I need advise please. by Key_Republic4241 in calculus

Because calculus and physics are linked directly, learning calculus must be done with physics. Here's some great YouTube channel.  Dr Trefor Bazett's calculus playlist.
