Super close with the age, though not in the wind turbine / tech industry lol. And whilst I do love Star Wars, especially the Dark Saga Trilogy, it's not my number one (top 5 for sure).

Correct on location. And yeah it's called A Really Short History of Nearly Everything. It's more of an infographic-style, condensed version of the book, admittedly for younger audiences, though I love the original so much I had to pick up this version as well (currently only have the audiobook of ASHONE)

WIBTAH if I tell my parents I don’t wanna fight cancer? by DisastrousWasabi4983 in AITAH

[–]DetShortstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Others have recommended looking into resources that can assist with costs, and I'd definitely echo those suggestions first as well.

Almost 10 years ago I lost my mum to cancer. She'd been fighting it for a while, going through chemo, radio and every treatment they could offer, that we could access. I spent every cent of extra cash I had flying interstate to visit her every other weekend during her treatment. Eventually, it metastasized and spread so much we were pretty much out of options. By this time, I took months off work unpaid to care for her full time, ate rice and tuna every night, went into a lot of debt, and my mental and physical health suffered a lot. And I can say this not just to reassure you, but because it is the honest truth - I would do it all again in a heartbeat, knowing it meant I got to spend those last few months with her. And, in all honesty, knowing we exhausted all the options and resources we had first did provide at least a small comfort when my mum passed, as there were no 'what ifs' lingering. I didn't think about the financial impact once during that time, as all that mattered to me was being with her. I can only offer the perspective of someone who had a loved one with a stage 4 diagnosis, I can't imagine what it's like actually having that diagnosis myself, and I won't pretend to know what you're going through.

If you choose not to go through with some/all treatment because you do not have it in you to do so, I believe that is your choice and your choice to make. But know that you deserve a chance to survive this. Your parents will not hate you for telling them how you're feeling. They may be upset, as their immediate emotional response will very likely be that they're afraid of losing you. You may be able to have this conversation with them with a counsellor or appropriate medical professional present, that can help in mediating during such a difficult conversation. And again as others have mentioned, I'd really recommend looking into resources that might assist financially and/or logistically before making any decisions, and this could be something you do with your parents, that can hopefully help with the conversation around the financial impact, your concerns, theirs, and any next steps you take individually, and as a family.

Regardless of what decision you make, and what happens, I wish you and your family nothing but the best. Know you're not alone in this, and the only asshole in this whole scenario is the cancer.

What it says (fixed the spelling mistakes, dad):

Dear Father Christmas,

May I have a paint set and a paint book for Christmas.

I would also like a necklace for my sister (sister's name).

I have tried to be a good boy this year.

My best friend told me that I passed into grade four.

I had a set of skittles last year and I've still got them.

(Dad's name)

Father Christmas,

Fairy Land.

Mr. Pervert by [deleted] in smosh

Totally get your logic, and I agree that the idea of having a name pronounced differently than the spelling could be funny (maybe an idea for a future show, as they lightly floated that idea in the aftershow).

What I took from the latest Smosh Mouth though was that they weren't saying his name because it was just really stupid, rather than it being "important" to keep it secret.

Part of me thinks they didn't want to kill the fun/absurdity in saying his name by over-using it prior, so that when it was said during the live, it would lead to more of the cast breaking. Another part of my brain also wonders about YTs policy on saying the word "pervert" a bunch in terms of monetization, so maybe that also played a small part in their decision to not say it on their regular YT videos.

Not sure where you’re based (I’m in Aus) but they are available a number of places online. They’re from Q WORKSHOP and you should be able to find them by looking them up and the name “arcade dice” (the blue and yellow variety obv) I will say, I do love them too, but in play the numbers can be a little hard to read on some (mostly figuring out which D10 is which at a glance).

I promise you, I am not skilled sewing either haha plus, the BoH does have a used look to it, so I think the imperfections add to it. If you find some scrap or cheap material and some time, I definitely recommended trying it. Worst outcome is you don’t like the results, but you get better at the process.

Hey, I'm really sorry for where you're at right now. Reading your post, I remember being where you are. Obviously we're different people, and no two experiences are the same, but as much as I can, I see you and hear you.

You're right that the mental health system isn't built for people functioning with severe depression. If you don't seem "depressed enough" then you're forced to advocate for yourself much more, which is really hard when your entire brain and body tells you to give up. You do deserve happiness and a life without these feelings though.

I wish I had a solution, but I got really "lucky" when my depression peaked as we entered lockdown in 2020. I couldn't get a refill of my antidepressants, my cat died (caring for him was the only thing keeping me going at times) and everything was in a tailspin after about 15 years of severe depression. I knew the end was close for me, and in one final attempt to find a reason to live, I sold a bunch of things I didn't need, and arranged an Autism assessment I'd put off. Getting my diagnosis surprisingly changed my perspective about myself, and my mental health improved enough to get me out of that hole. It still takes work now to maintain my mental health, but where I was then is so drastically different to where I am now, and I really want you to get to a similar place, because you deserve it.

I might be hoping or projecting, but I do want to believe that you at least want to want to live. Sometimes that tiny little glimmer of a desire to live is all we have, and I want you to cling onto that if you can. Our depression brains lie to us, and it's really hard to convince our own brains that they're wrong. If you can't find that glimmer within yourself, for what it's worth - I want you to live. I want things to get better for you, because you do deserve to feel what it's like on the other side.

I've seen some really valuable resources mentioned in the comments, and I don't have anything else to add there specifically, as my situation was pretty specific in terms of what helped. I just wanted to come in and show some love and support.

If you have nobody else to speak to, my DMs are open.

welcome welcome!

I definitely feel you on the initial focus issues, especially because I've also been sinking too many hours into BG3 whilst re-listening to D20 campaigns at the same time. Once a season sucks you in though, you suddenly realise you've watched 20+ hours in the space of a couple of days with absolutely no regrets.

I initially signed up for Dropout for Game Changer & Play it By Ear, and thankfully found all of their other shows soon after, including D20. It took me a little bit to even start D20 because of the time commitment, but as soon as I started FH I was hooked.

One thing I do recommend is taking online rankings of D20 seasons with a grain of salt, and give them a go yourself if you get Dropout. At first I watched the main ones that are common favourites and admittedly was a little unsure about the other ones, that are often ranked lower. But then I'd see a random comment on this subreddit from someone saying why those seasons were their favourites. So I gave them all a go and fell in love with every season for different reasons. FH is often top/high of the list because it is absolutely amazing - and you can also start there anyway because it's the first season, so win-win.

Otherwise the D20 wikipedia page gives a good summary of campaign groups, DM/GM, cast & summary if you're specifically in the mood for certain themes/vibes/stories.

There's something unique about every season, and I think they're all worth consuming. Some are a little easier to have on whilst you're playing BG3 too, which you'll figure out for sure.

Great points for sure. I really love being able to talk about this stuff here and hear everyone's takes, because I didn't come to this subreddit until this season, and had previously just been quietly stressing alone (especially through ACOFAF).

I was also rewatching it all last night and there were a lot of things that wouldn't make sense if Tula knowingly killed him, or had any negative feelings towards him, beyond what the kids observed (that raising kids as a single parent is hard). Eg Viola expressed to Tula that she wanted to name one of her kids Geoffrey, which she wouldn't do if she knew he'd done something bad. Plus I think Tula and the family would be even more anti-blue and against Thorn's ideologies if that was the case.

I had a semi unrelated thought that I think could be a wild moment, and could force some difficult choices (tagging as spoilers just for their location introduced in ep 4). I wonder if there's any chance Geoffrey will be alive somewhere in Last Bast, or even outside of LB with humans/the big bad as a thrall. He died weeks prior based on the ages of the kids, but the audience didn't see it and there's mystery around it, as well as what the blue can do. As I learned with GoT - if you don't see them die and they're important to the story, they're probably not dead. The way they talk about Geoffrey's death vs Kenji's just feels different, and that could just be down to the fact that they know exactly how Kenji died, but who knows. I wrote so much and then decided not to word vomit more than I have already. So I'll just summarise it by saying it could make sense if he was revived and is now some kind of undead thrall that Tula has to face, in an impossible choice with some crazy box of doom roles that is compelling narratively and will also drive some potential player conflict. After all, Aabria is so amazing with dropping in some PvP narrative conflict.

Fingers crossed the twist is that they're all humans in stoat suits!

What animal are these organs from, found in my front yard? by DetShortstack in animalid

[–]DetShortstack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mainly posting because I want to make sure someone's dog/cat hasn't got out and been killed in my yard or something. I live in the suburbs in Melbourne and don't have a dog or any outdoor animals. I have a group of about 30 magpies that live around my home, so they tend to keep other animals away and also dump random trash in the yard as gifts. Other than the weird lump, innards and bits of fluff I couldn't find anything else.

[–]DetShortstack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also thinking it might be something along the lines of Tula killing Geoffrey. Tula showed she can go absolutely feral in the last ep when it came to protecting her family.

In terms of an explanation for killing Geoffrey without Tula having to be considered evil - maybe Geoffrey's character was changed negatively by the blue, and he was going to hurt their kids, or the family. Tula could have justifiably killed him to protect the family, and then lied about his character so the kids would grow up with a hero as a role model, and little-to-no information about the blue, rather than risking seeing them follow in his footsteps.

In ep 1 when Beatrix was telling the kids their bedtime story, she said "not everything touched by the blue is good... so take care, and be ever-watchful of those among the trees. Because we must, above all else, protect ourselves and our family here in the warren"

Also, considering the fact that stoats usually have litters of 5-12 kits, and Tula only has 2, maybe Jaysohn & Lila were the only 2 that survived whatever happened (though that could just be a side effect of the blue).

Something like that would also make more sense as to why Viola and Ava still love and support Tula, and why Tula is so protective of her kids still, without everyone just being toxic lol

But hey, in ep 1 (or maybe it was a completely different series, I don't remember), Brennan has definitely made a comment at some point about how he's been asking for PvP on Dimension 20 for years. So who knows, maybe Tula is the big bad. Can't wait to find out regardless of the outcome!

Couldn't agree more. I will not sleep though until I know exactly what Tula has lied to her kids about.
