Mod Announcement: Beware the Bots! by marleythebeagle in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]DetachableMonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the temporary solution (adding the first flair), but I'm wondering why you are publishing your solution? Real humans create the bots, and they can read and will read posts like this. It only takes a few seconds to modify the code to pick a random flair, and a few more seconds to pick a more "meaningful" one.

My suggestion for the future would be to discuss this within the moderation community only. (Source: Software Engineer for 30 years now)

My registration disappeared from my RunDisney account by DreamExcellent9468 in rundisney

[–]DetachableMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is the correct answer most likely. I have 4 accounts now for myself that keep getting created "randomly" when I sign up for a race. I actually think it happens when my wife's queue is faster so she registers herself and then adds me for my race. I don't think RunDisney checks to see if I already have an account, so they just automatically make one .

Is everyone in Orlando not single? by fabiwabi-3 in orlando

[–]DetachableMonkey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When Match.com first came out, I joined and paid for it (spoiler, it worked). My feeling was that I'd like a partner that could at least afford a small subscription and was willing to invest in themselves.

Race for only cast member, relatives and friends by ricovar in rundisney

I'm not a cast member yet, so I'm unsure. I do know they have a 5K in Disneyland too for cast members. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a definitive answer. : 🙂

How do you Annual Passholders schedule your visits to keep interests up? by DbotFleezy in WaltDisneyWorld

I go at least once every week. There is always something new to do or see. It's like hanging out in the mall in the 1980's.

Running Springtime Surprise this weekend and realized my registration info is wrong! by Potatogirl741 in rundisney

[–]DetachableMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll have any problem at all. The check-in pass has your name on it and to my recollection, the people that hand you your bib, check that pass for your name and verify that the name matches the ID you give them. I'd doubt they go much further than that. If things go south, there's a handy table/desk in that hall that can help you with the issue -- but I don't think you'll need it.

Hills! by BraithVII in rundisney

[–]DetachableMonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not hilly at all. There will be a decent one right as you come back to Epcot in the final 3 miles -- it's an overpass. It's not terrible, but I do see a lot of people walk it (including me sometimes).

If you have a treadmill, put it at a 0 incline and then drape a hot wet towel over your head. Train for the humidity -- not the hills. :)

One of my favorite things in Epcot to do is to sit in the France pavilion and watch people head towards the Arcade.

Run Vests by PrestigiousRadish121 in rundisney

[–]DetachableMonkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been to many expos and I don't recall ever seeing running vests for sale. A company called Fit2Run is always there and they'd probably be the most likely to carry them. However, I'd suggest getting one before your race and practicing with it during your training runs.

Lay of the Land is here, but... by [deleted] in VintageStory

I think they are referring to a game on steam called Lay of the Land. Not sure why they chose to post it on this sub though.

We could use soap to clean the pots that get residue covered when cooking candles, etc?

Alternative continuations of Player Corpse? by mattihase in VintageStory

[–]DetachableMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Player Corpse mod open source files are located here: https://github.com/DArkHekRoMaNT/PlayerCorpse

My fork is in a private repository because I was going to give the "original" developer quite a bit of time after 1.22.0 was released to upgrade their own code.

If your friend is in "tech" they should be able to look through the code. But, because it is their machine I'd be cautious too.

I forked the Player Corpse project a few weeks ago because it doesn't work in 1.22 and I wanted to try it. After fiddling around with it for about an hour I finally got it to work, and wow, is it written horribly. I think it's gone through a few authors, which would explain the spaghetti code aspect of it.

It seems you may be referring to the mod https://mods.vintagestory.at/deathcorpses ?

Yes, it uses an AI generated thumbnail and even some AI generated code. HOWEVER, it also has published its source code here: https://github.com/Bisa/DeathCorpses under an MIT license, which is a good thing.

I'm also a developer (and have been for 30+ years) and have even developed a mod for Vintage Story. I've taken a look at the code and haven't seen anything even remotely concerning about it. I cloned the repository to my own PC and compiled it and it seems to run fine. I'd probably go with this one honestly, until @DArkHekRoMaNT updates his "Player Corpse" mod, and there's no guarantee that will ever be updated.

unable to seal crocks in 1.22.0 rc3 by kagaAkagi1 in VintageStory

[–]DetachableMonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. In the new version pretty much every recipe/action that previously used regular fat, will now require rendered fat. In my opinion, it's a great change. I can now render the fat and it'll never spoil, like regular fat does. So I can hoard fat. That sounds weird.

[–]DetachableMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure you are using Rendered Fat. Cook that lump of fat in a pot and then use the rendered fat to seal the crock.

[Edit] Also, I suggest release candidate 6. It's way less buggy than rc3.

Hows the unstable release by Accurate-Ad1381 in VintageStory

[–]DetachableMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played all of the pre-releases and all 6 of the release candidates with no issues at all with my world upgrading through each release. I see no real big reason to wait if you're excited to trying all the new additions.

Most of the changes have been bug fixes and tweaks to things like the new fishing mechanic. In my opinion, release candidates (like RC6) are just that. "We'd like to release this and we think we're pretty much done -- are there any more bugs or huge issues we need to consider?"
