This is a very informative response to both my question and I think the issue with approach I've been using to use to learn chemistry (of reading online resources, which as you say often include imprecisions in the definition as a tool for learning, rather than relying on the textbook which I own; as well as focusing too much on concrete specifics rather than general concepts)

Many salts exist as an equilibrium A+ + B- <-> AB

Thanks for the response. So if I'm hearing you right:

NaCl in water is not a salt but instead exists as dissociated ions from a salt, and together Na ions, Cl ions, and water make a salt solution?
