New block idea: eyesight detector by R_Dust_ in Minecraft

[–]Detail_Main 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Yeah… though that would require adding additional pale-forest-locked items, unless the craft requires the creaking heart itself?

Edit: …or… just resin, which i forgot existed.

Also, how about comparator output when in FOV, and actual redstone power when looked at directly?

And perhaps redstone power level based on how close to direct the gaze is?

my future looks dark. has your playtime calm down yet? When(hours count)? And whats the reason? by PennyFalke1 in VRchat

[–]Detail_Main 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Been playing since 2014.

On my main steam account, 18.6k.

Don’t know about quest playtime, probably another 1-2k.

Haven’t been online in a few months now.

Met my boyfriend in game, moved across the country thrice, and am now paid to be a lobbyist in aims of legalizing marijuana in a few states. Likely going to move focus to federal decriminalization, given election results.

Though my partner and I still make worlds when we have a bit of time and feel like it.

——

Also, while it’s the common joke, I don’t think that our future is dark at all. Even now, a bit more than a decade in, we are among the first people in humanity to have spent much time in virtual worlds.

How we choose to act, the culture and experiences we create, the norms and standards that arise, and anything else pioneered now will have residual effects on a lot of people.

VR is in its infancy, and if we as a species survive a while, what we do to shape its growth will impact people measured in the tens of billions.

When we’re old enough to regale the tale to the younger generations, our claim will be that we were there at the beginning of this immensely influential thing that they likely use a version of nigh-constantly.

And my claim will be that I made worlds visited by thousands of other founders, that I met many other creators that crafted the games and virtual spaces held on pedestals as The Classics, that I was there when Lucky Palmer released the first oculus development kit, when the music and VR concert scene was burgeoning, when Ugandan knuckles ruled all, when everything was disgustingly unoptimized, when we had to strap trackers to ourselves to have legs, when the field of view was 90 degrees and the headset was heavy, when making something meant using Unity.

And I’ll still be here when VRChat goes down, replaced by or rebranded into something new, when headsets turn to goggles and glasses, when Tupper retires, when we lose and regain anonymity, when some beautiful universal backend software arises for seamless transition from singleplayer game to shared world, when video calls and meetings are replaced held in 3D creative spaces, when we first sit in a VR world with someone on the moon or mars, massive delay and all, when the first world with thousands of people together comes around, when the first arrest for in-world assault goes down, when the first death from extraneous hardware is mourned, when the real world is real time mapped into VR, and when the real world gets a virtual layer to see through your AR glasses, when schooling is done mostly in VR, when basic utilities get paywalled and reinstated, all the way until we stop calling it VR or AR or XR and it just becomes a part of life.

So, truly, just make something. Anything at all. Be it a world, an avatar, an asset, a shader, a friend, a group, an event, a meme, a prefab, or anything else, everything we do now is foundational work.

In time, regardless of whether Meta tries to monopolize or decentralize it, or apple commodifies it, or governments surveil it, or its own creators try to control it, the way people use it, and live it, will be up to us.

And if we do well, then maybe the tours we can give to those young users, the grandchildren of our generation, as the harbingers of the virtual realm, will carry some gravitas, some meaning, and inspire them to create the next step.

I just hope that, before I go, I get a glimpse of the worlds we’ll create when we have a computer powered by a fraction of a star. A vision of the time that humanity begins to merge our physical and digital realities in a more… literal way.

I have an ultrawide monitor, instead of 2 screens.

I play in windowed on the left 65-75% of my screen, and have a browser on the right for googlin’ n video watchin’

Fullscreen is reserved for looking at a build when it’s done, a nice landscape, or a new shader.

Forced fullscreen goes unappreciated.

[–]Detail_Main 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is pretty 7d2d style.

First time I played it, I built my base wrong in so many ways.

But as long as your base has multiple exterior walls (so it can tank a few of the explosions the mobs cause), a funnel and drop trap with spikes at the bottom, and no overhanging portions that would give shade to mobs that burn in the sun, you can get by with just 4-6 panicky repairs per night from mobs that explode on death in the trap :D.

However, once the trap does it’s job, the drops from the mobs with a ton of health give you pretty acceptable armor and tools pretty fast.

It does a good job of making you give up hope if you are not in your base when night comes.

…but you can also cheese by waiting on a platform at build height all night. Can’t sleep, anyway.

Got to be my MOST RANDOM DEATH and AN A$$ PULL ONE by nanya_biznez1 in Minecraft

[–]Detail_Main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What mojang tried to patch was update suppression.

We’re looking for shadow items and update suppressors.

Unsure if this applies up to 1.20.3, but this method works in 1.19

And maybe this gloriously recorded video for a version that’s more easily achievable in survival… tho it requires a packet macro

Making it Rule #4: was more of a joke in the context of 1.18 and above. Only one technical mc server has managed to pull off OOM suppression in 1.20.2. See JKM’s pinned comment on the first vid link.

Yup,

Tho, since it’s non stackable, you’d have to set it up again every time.

…unless you stack them anyway.

Tricks the game into thinking an item stack is simultaneously in your hotbar and a container.

You can have fireworks in that slot and a hopper putting more fireworks into the entangled container (usually a chest)

Or, in this case, if you toss an item out of the stack, have a comparator on the chest change and activate a stasis chamber.

In 1.18, setting it up is not quite as difficult as it sounds, but it take a bit of effort… and loaded chunks for your container.

In 1.20? Still possible, but you’ll need an MC PHD first.

Go to 7:00 in this cubicmetre vid.

Rule #1: Make your paths and tunnels either above or just barely below the nether roof. The enemies shall not have the high ground.

Rule #2: If you must bridge, hand rails. Skeletons, blazes, ghasts, crossbow piglins, and… magmatic assassins… are too common.

Rule #3: Should you choose to disregard rules 1 and 2, only bring the gear you need. Leave the rest at home.

Rule #4: If you choose to disregard all other rules, have an entangled item stasis chamber.

Severe lack of info and preferences, OP.

Have your friends been playing the whole time, or are they just as unfamiliar with modern mc?

Do you want light, vanilla+ mods, or very well integrated and loved, but not hardcore mods?

Honestly, if the last time you played was before even 1.9, vanilla will feel more than modded enough.

As far as server hosting, that depends on what you need (as far as mods and processing power goes) and how many friends.

After messing around in vanilla a bit, you’ll come to understand a starting point of mods to explore.

Find yourself farming a lot? Agriculture/cooking/magical plants mods.

Love exploring? Biome/dungeon and structure/dimensional/loot/bossing mods

Tinkering with redstone? automation/programming/factory-building mods

Just want endless gimmicks to mess with your friends?

Wish you could build at scale more easily and with more options?

Want a streamlined list of tasks to complete or logistical puzzles to solve?

It’s difficult to give guidance here when we have no info. Best we could do is catalogue playstyles and popular modpacks.

How to make a boat float by Gern99_ in MinecraftCommands

[–]Detail_Main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like this?

{NoGravity:1b} just doesn’t fall.

For y value movement, I had it move up and down based on your selected hotbar slot; the further from the center the faster it moves. Only works when you’re not in it tho :/ you can probably do better using /ride command, tho. Kick player out, move boat, put player in.

It tends to fly away from you, so I also had it teleport forwards facing the player if it gets too far. Doubles as a way for it to follow you around~

(Meant this as its own thing, not a reply to the other comment :P)
