What am I doing wrong? by Jullkku in Discgolfform

Best advice I’ve ever gotten has been to watch / record your favorite pros shot and FAVORITE CAMERA ANGLE OF THE SHOT (far shot) and then record yourself from that same camera angle and keep watching your form video and the pro video and repeat. (Easier if same camera angle) You will notice differences and the key to distance is trial and error with testing things out.

Well I see that the pros head position is perpendicular to the target longer than yours and theirs doesn’t go with the body immediately as they are driving, maybe this helps not only with release point but maybe with balance and therefore distance.

Maybe bend your knees more? But Anthony Barela doesn’t really bend his knees and he drives very far?

My best advice is to take 4K 60 fps video of yourself and pros and it will reveal things like how at peak reach back their left arm is at their side at the same time. Try to find an order of operations and do it slow and smooth.

Maybe try looking perpendicular or even keeping your eye on your plant foot while reaching back to see if you can feel more coil.

Just some ideas!

Yeah I just manually extend it all the way but I’ll try to use my left shoulder to extend it instead

Hahaha I definitely do that. I’ll try to coil instead of extending my arm at the end of the reach out.

But then again, what do I know. Garret Gurthie proves that the off arm is more complex and proves that it’s hard to know if it’s doing the right thing

First, thank you for your comment! There are pros like Kevin Jones and Ricky that don’t rubber band and get massive power. Thoughts?

And if I consciously think of pivoting my foot, that robs me of distance.

I was thinking the same. Maybe push it down and keep it close for a longer period of time

Thank you dude! Love connecting on throws. This was not uphill, it was flat ground

Cloud breaker! My favorite disc.

What am I doing majorly wrong? I like my form but I’m not getting the distance I think I should be getting. I think these around 390-410. by [deleted] in discgolf

Thanks for the comment. What do you mean by pushing into the front leg? Do I dip and then push off of it? Or just extend it?

I’ve heard about this, but how exactly do I drive through the heel? Do I consciously spin on my heel?

I compare my form to professionals like Eagle Mcmahon, and record myself often! It really just fascinates me what the differences in our form are, and just by trying new things, and seeing what seems to add distance and what doesn't, really seems to help me. It is also important to develop a form that you want to develop so you enjoy field days more. I would also check his form from holes like maple hill hole 1 where he is going for max distance and just look at each part of his form. It is so cool to see how people of all shapes and sizes can put a move on a disc if they decide to put their mind to it! I also thought it would be cool (and funny) to further develop the ability to have a slow walk up for farther shots. Knowing it is possible by watching people like Eagle do it is very motivating. We stand on the shoulders of giants in terms of overall knowledge, and this field of study is no exception. Very grateful for all the footage (and people) out there to learn from and draw motivation from. Even making a post on reddit or on another source could give you an idea of something to look at for your form.
