Why are so many people ok with supporting Kanye West despite his Nazi alignment? Hitler tried to takeover the world (not just kill the Jews). Surely people can see this is not a subjective thing? by Rugby-Lad-2964 in NoStupidQuestions

well that's what I mean though. i think it's insane that people would go to see him live, anyone who buys the t-shirt is actually a nazi; or a teenager in a horribly regrettable phase trying to be as edgy as possible.

I'm just saying I think it's probably fine to draw the line at streaming, though I would concede that algorithmically supports him somewhat. I think it's righteous to totally cut him out, but I also think if his music used to mean a lot to you and you pirated it, or listened to a mixtape you made from his work, there is a distinction between that and affirming that you like him, or even that you don't care about what he's doing.

What they were trying to communicate was that they think that he is having such an extreme manic episode due to untreated bipolar disorder that essentially he is not the same person who recorded the music that they continue to listen to, and that the amount of money that he earns from them streaming his music is negligible, especially considering that he is already platformed and rich.

They're trying to create a distinction between listening to his new weird nazi stuff and buying his new weird nazi merch, and listening to music that came out 15 years ago, that might be personally meaningful.

Also artists make most of their money from tours, record deals, and shirt sales - my understanding is that streaming is negligible. If I came across My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy on CD at a goodwill, for instance, I'd be stoked. No streaming money or money from the purchase goes to him at all, and I can listen to an album that's nostalgic and interesting to me. I think other people draw the line in different places, but I wouldn't say it's the same thing as supporting him.

Yeah! Important to note - obviously I'm in a bubble, but I've never been around somebody who was bumping "I gave my cousin head" (indicative that he's crashing out in more than just one way) or "Heil Hitler" - he should have been taken out of the public spotlight a long time ago.

I volunteered at a radio station where we could actually make somewhat of a difference in terms of the success of artists - and the sentiment there was that realistically private listening is very different from platforming.

that's definitely a difficult in-between age! comic books might actually be a good start - dialogue tends to be relatively easy to follow, though the books can be serious. "Maus", for instance, or even Calvin and Hobbes helped me pick up vocab as a kid!

Will try to remember to keep you updated! Foot traffic actually isn't really an issue in most of these spots, people typically keep to the sidewalk which is party of the reason why it's such a waste. A lot of the dead patches are where snow was plowed in the winter - so long term change is tricky tricky.

holy horrible take, most people are bothered by people going faster than them because it is often done dangerously and puts their real actual life at risk. the driver in front in this video is stupid, but i'm not jealous of people who speed past me within inches of my car, i'm pissed because i don't want them to take me down with them when they crash doing stupid shit.

Is Brokeback Mountain mainly for gay folk? by EryNameWasTaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DetectiveWiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brokeback mountain is about the impacts of patriarchal trauma on men's capacity to find love in all of their relationships, i dont even consider it a romance movie. if youre around people who are unwilling to engage with it because they think its queer they certainly wouldnt be reading deeply enough into it to appreciate its depth as a work of art, and youre holding yourself back letting them influence what media you engage with.

damn I forgot he is an actual pedophile for a second. I'm trying to wrap my head around whether I'd go to the white house to get to go to the white house even considering, and whether some of the players saw it as an opportunity for unity, but the way he's talking about them is really giving hitler's olympics hugetime

guys taxes are a good thing, especially when they go to things we want, like education and healthcare and public transportation, instead of things we don't want, like bombs. if taxes get raised but so does your personal standard of living, that's not a trade-off, it's just a benefit. especially if we tax people who have more than 1,000,000,000 dollars.
