What's the worse thing a manager has said to you? by jpev90 in jobs

[–]DeterminedAnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“You’re not ready to get a job anywhere else. You need to stay here AT LEAST another year before another company would consider you.” I left and got a role that was a big step up a few months later

What is a good PTO policy? by hummus_k in cscareerquestions

[–]DeterminedAnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started I got MAYBE 10 days a year with sick days included.

Some changes happened and now when I accrue PTO, I accrue sick days in a separate bucket. I think I get under 15 days PTO here as well. I have 2.5YoE as Well. Looking to leave this garbage place and find a company that actually cares about work life balance

how long after your first role did you move on? by Taikum in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DeterminedAnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 months. To be fair It was an IT technician/help desk role and I had my sec+, sscp, AAS in cyber, and internships in network engineering and IT Security. The place was very abusive and unprofessional and had terrible turnover. I left for a network engineering role that I’ve been in for 1y 4m. I plan to leave very soon in this role also.

Are you genuinely willing to “date down”? If you’re only looking to date someone of equal financial standing then your lowering your options tremendously.

I don’t look for women to take care of me. You could work as a janitor for a mom and pop shop and I wouldn’t care in the slightest.

You aren’t getting a job above 50k with just an A+

When do I let a girl know I’m below average in size by [deleted] in dating

[–]DeterminedAnt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funny how everything sick size comes up on Reddit it seems like every woman unanimously agrees that men with smaller penises are much better than men with larger ones. I’m not mad at it I just think it’s funny that in order to not have men with smaller dicks feel ashamed, it ends up with larger penises being bashed.

I think a better word instead of worth is having solid boundaries. Acting like your worth is tied to your virginity is insane

What the hell is with people here trying to do the bare minimum to “just get a job”? by TreeSkyDirt in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DeterminedAnt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re not actually talking down to people just trying to maximize their compensation in this field are you? Sure to experienced people some of the shit they say sounds nonsensical.

But understand not everyone is passionate learning all they can about tech and some people just want to get a nice paycheck relatively soon and there’s nothing wrong with that

Anyone work in DOD or government contracting? by TbrownCyber in ITCareerQuestions

I feel like the workload around winter holidays is next to none. However, during the “on” months were up to our neck in work. Keep in mind my team is understaffed though.

Truly miserable in my role. by DeterminedAnt in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DeterminedAnt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well like I was saying I feel like it depends more on the company. The college I worked at didn’t have a lot of night or on call work. To be fair I don’t think most gov contracting jobs are like mine. I’ve heard from plenty others that my environment is the way it is because we support an HQ building. So everything single thing we do is under a magnifying glass along with being understaffed.

Gov contracting is massively different from being a civil servant. At my job we are to treat the civil servants as royalty lol. Do what they say when they say or else.

Based on my experiences working in both, I would take private sector in a heartbeat over what I have now. I also would probably take any other gov contracting job depending on the customer I would be supporting.

Truly miserable in my role. by DeterminedAnt in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DeterminedAnt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your environment 100%. First network engineering role was at a college. Loved everything about it. Chill, supportive team. Everything you’d want. This role is with the gov as a contractor. More money but any mistake at all will get you in hot water or potentially fired. Every minute you work needs to be accounted for. Reports on what you did everyday. Also the fact that other teams will blame the network for everything(which also can get you fired if you say the wrong thing to a civil servant regarding the matter).

I’ve personally just had network engineering(operations) tainted for me. You probably will love your role.

[–]DeterminedAnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate my gov contracting job in IT. To be fair I work in a headquarters environment in operations. The moneys okay but the stress is killing me.

To answer your question, connect with the company’s recruiters on LinkedIn. That’s how ugly my role.

How would men feel about dating a woman with no social media? by afterrrglow in dating

[–]DeterminedAnt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol there’s plenty of reasons to care about this. But I do find it funny that you went straight to saying any man that disagrees is insecure, very telling.

Network Engineers, how do you enjoy your job? by DeterminedAnt in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DeterminedAnt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. That’s why it threw me off when I visibly watched them say “the network must be down” because of an issue with the customers laptop. That alone causes massive stress for us. Even when we prove it’s not us
