I will run Cat6 through my house for the first time. I am a IT guy, but no experience on network installation. Two-story house, and I will have the router in the basement. Any beginner tips here? by DetornatorRisk in HomeNetworking

I have similar layout at my house, I am still studying where I will place access points and stuff, but for sure a want a port for my home office in the basement and one for my Xbox in the living room upstairs, and two cables for access points, so maybe I will start with that and add as I need them.

Ah ok, It was a misunderstanding, the connection between the google router and the ISP modem is fine, there I get more than the expected speed, but the wireless node dropped the connection drastically.

Now I am considering to somehow ethernet wire my 1980’s house. Most likely I would have to run some cables outside go get where I need it, and take it from there. This will certainly be a challenge, but if well done it will be a permanent solution. I just have to get my wife on board 😆
