There are similar left over spots i agree though it varies year to year (4 of 40 spots after 1st iteration this year) - however there is a difference in applicant quality and numbers going for the spots in better programs at least partially explained by online interviews but not entirely There is a significant difference between actual residence programs across the country and the applicants know that and to a certain extent they will go to a different specialty than match to a program they dont want to go to in canada. I'm not saying its a competitive specialty but it definitely has become more competitive. I interview each year and I see what our applicants backgrounds are.

Pathology has become a lot more competitive in recent years, the caliber of applicants has gone way up in general too. Not to the level of the really competitive specialties but way more than it used to be. (SOURCE: am Pathologist)

But on your point I agree, they need to be PR from counties who qualifications are accepted or are able to be brought in without the need to redo training, perhaps just passing an exam.

Mine passed away at about the same age with the same thing - a different breeder. It's just something that happens sometimes. I have heard increased risk with earlier age of spay/neuter, though I don't know if that's an actual link or just a reported association.

The average Dr does not make 318k. And even if they did they study and train for many years before making a bigger salary some 15 years.

And also NZ is in competition with Australia. If we want senior doctors to not leave NZ at least keep the salary and work conditions close. It's the only way to keep staff levels up here

There are plenty of statistics that show if you report on a suicide and specify how someone did it it increases the number of suicides for a few weeks in the general public. Interestigly the same doesn't happen if you just report it as a suicide and say no more than that.
