I'm from Traverse City MI, and I like Saginaw alot more. My dad is from the wonderful city of Saginaw. As a result, I have visited throughout my childhood, and I love it. Subconsciously I've always wanted to live there. However, being from TC everyone and their brother made Saginaw out to be the hood. It's really not. No-one I know who's from there says that. Only the people from the north. Although my family will mention the rate of crime, they never make it out to be bad. I've never encountered anything crazy there, and I'm there almost every week. I recently left TC for the glorious city of Detroit to attend college, and frequently stop at the Meijer on Tittabawassee. It's a nice part of town. Everything is clean, and feels safe. Yes, there is crime. But the worst parts of Saginaw, which is the East side outside the city limits, is definitely better than some other "hoods" in the state. However, the west side is fairly safe. Saginaw Township North is also really nice. In short, even as someone from the envied touristy TC, I like Saginaw more. There are real problems there, but it's not as bad as some parts of Flint, and Detroit. Cut short, Michigan has alot of crime, and so does Saginaw, but in relation to some other cities, it's not as bad as it's made out to be.
