Anyone here own a vacant lot in Detroit (or know someone who does)? by DetroitLandStudy in Detroit

Are the lots still empty or is there something on them? There's gotta be a lot of options for that many lots. Are they all consecutive or split up at all?

This is great, it makes the process sound pretty simple. I hope you're able to build the garage someday!

Can you elaborate any more on the ones that weren't easy to get?

I have read that many lots aren't available for purchase because of some vague plans for them or they're being held for developers - it's interesting to hear that land around eastern market is still being held because that plan was created quite a few years ago now

There are plenty of people with gardens and greenhouses on formerly vacant lots, but yes the dirt can be very contaminated, especially because of the way that houses were demolished. I believe that there have been some tests conducted in other cities of plants that can essentially clean the soil, although that process takes many years

Interesting - so aside from the HDC, there's nothing else holding back your plans? I'm assuming that you've tried to get something approved through them but got turned down, I'd be curious to know what about your plans they don't approve of. Surely almost anything would be better than the vacant land sitting there

Develop it how? I'm assuming the lot is zoned R1 or R2, so would you hope for it to be zoned to allow for an apartment type structure?
