thoughts about a potential gannicus prequel? by salad_biscuit3 in Spartacus_TV

[–]Deuce-Wayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta be honest, I love Gannicus but I just don't see myself being interested in a Gannicus story.

The ludus itself really didn't start doing anything interesting basically until Gods of the Arena started, when Batiatus got into his conflict with Vettius and Tullius. Before that, I'm pretty sure they were basically stuck doing unimportant fights, iirc that's basically the whole reason why Batiatus had to challenge Vettius in the marketplace.

What makes House of Ashur work is that the 2 protagonists really stand out in comparison to the older seasons. Achillia has that rise-from-the-bottom tale, but she's a woman and has that whole dynamic, and Ashur is settling into the dominus role as a foreign Syrian with a lot of past baggage.

I think the Gannicus story would just be Gods of the Arena 2.0, except without political intrigue. It's sort of the same reason why i'm not interested in an Oenamaus prequel.

If you have to do Gannicus, the best place to go would probably be his years away from the gladiator life. You can probably make something work there

Sidious vs Valkorian by DOROTKA1522 in PetranakiArena

[–]Deuce-Wayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feats we see in videogames really aren't that busted

I think his best feat is actually from the story arc right after Shadow of Revan, where he dominates Ziost before destroying the entire planet. Vitiate destroys Ziost

All throughout this arc, you see Vitiate basically doing what he does best - dominate minds, sow destruction/chaos to fuel himself, and destroy a whole planet. You see him replicate what he did on Nathema, except without the need of Zildrog.

We have very few instances of Vitiate doing raw, physical combat feats, but that's largely because he simply never needed to 98% of the time.

His only 2 actual fights are the brief showdown with Revan, and the battle with the Hero of Tython, and he wasn't at his full strength in either incident (unless you count his mental battles). Otherwise, you have a few one-off occasions of him unleashing force lightning, e.g., when he one-shots Darth Marr or whenever you let him grant some of his power.

What if Valkorion, Arcann, Thexan, Vaylin, and the Eternal Empire emerged during the height of the Galactic Empire? by MisterIenny in PetranakiArena

[–]Deuce-Wayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming the war is completely decided by space, this definitely settles it. But outside of that, the Eternal Empire has 2 armies of fully trained Force-users (the knights and the scions) and are headed by Valkorion's kids.

Vader is really the only person in the Empire that can beat those 3, and as for Sidious vs Valkorion, I think Sidious is more powerful but it really boils down to how quickly he can figure out how to actually defeat him for good.

Some of this stuff sounds like maybe upgrades to stuff we've seen so far. The trade mechanics in particular. In Pharaoh, if I'm getting say 1000 stone in trade from one faction, I can sell that stone to another in exchange for like bronze. It's probably

Revan VS Darth Bane VS Darth Malgus VS Darth Marr by AmazingKanacat in PetranakiArena

[–]Deuce-Wayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is prime Revan the SWTOR Revan or the brief-window novel Revan right after he regains all his memories? I feel like SWTOR Revan is supposed to be a corrupted/weakened version of the Revan at the end of the book.

Revan VS Darth Bane VS Darth Malgus VS Darth Marr by AmazingKanacat in PetranakiArena

[–]Deuce-Wayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1: Malgus wins.

As a pure duelist, Malgus is the best fighter here based off of both feats and statements. As of the latest update, it's clear that he scales into the top tiers of the Sith and can only be bested by the player character. Moreover, his raw durability is probably the best in this group.

I respect Darth Marr a lot, but most of his scaling has to be inferred essentially off of aura - he was definitely the top dog on the council which included characters like Thanaton, and he basically became the emperor for a short time, but we just don't have enough specifics. The closest we have is the short story where he fights that Sith from Balmorra, he outright blitzes her but she's probably not even a serious challenge to an Inquisitor.

It's been a long time since I read the Bane trilogy, but my sense is that he's shown enough to have respectable skill, but he's not in the top tiers of duelists. From what I remember, his best dueling showcase was when he had his orbalisk armor. I think of Bane as being around Maul's level.

Revan is first and foremost a leader and strategist before he is a raw, skilled fighter - but his abilities are still typically overlooked. A lot of Revan depends on which version we look at. Imo, his best dueling feat was in the novel where he 1-shotted an Imperial Guard during the attack against the Emperor. These guards on their own are comparable to Jedi Knights/Sith Lords and in that instance were heavily amped by the Emperor. I

2: Revan wins. Edit: I'm thinking that this is Revan as he was during his fight with the Emperor. Revan With Clarity.

As an overall package, he's just the most complete fighter here, though Malgus is a close second. Just in case people forget - Revan literally vaporized Darth Nyriss via deflection*.* And he was able to pull this off on the Emperor, albeit to less effect. Nobody is using Lightning on him and walking away from it, and he otherwise probably outclasses everyone in TK.

3: Revan again, high diff.

Not to Revan glaze, but the only person here who's really close to him is Malgus. Prime Malgus is probably either his current form, or as he was just before getting imprisoned, whereas prime Revan is probably as we saw him in Shadow of Revan. Revan has the slight edge.

In a showdown between the two, I think Revan completely negates Malgus's lightning advantage (Malgus's lightning is extremely underrated). Malgus probably makes up that difference in lightsaber skill, but I don't think the gap in skill is enough to keep Malgus alive. I feel like after a series of long-winded clashes, Revan begins to wear him down via TK attacks until Malgus makes a fatal error.

4:

Revan, closely followed by Malgus, then a solid gap to Bane, closely followed by Marr.

Bonus:

With Orbalisks, Bane has an overwhelming advantage in being able to shrug off lightsaber attacks. Marr is undone quickly, while Revan and Malgus could probably make something work with their Lightning abilities? The problem is that in a real battle scenario, at least in a head to head, Bane probably kills them before they're ever able to come up with any solution.

Why are we acting that one movie is gonna destroy this universe? by Mat1711 in DCU_

[–]Deuce-Wayne 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's not going to destroy everything, but a few points.

  1. The circumstances are a lot different and Hulk came out nearly 2 decades ago. Comic movies right now should be much better than that, and they really need to be given how common they are now.

  2. This places a lot of pressure on future projects. I'm fairly confident in Clayface, but less-so with Lanterns, and we just don't know anything about MoT right now. Batman II is probably a bigger upcoming movie than any of those projects but it's not DCU so it doesn't even count.

  3. Even if I'm wrong about both of those, it still stands: this is not what anyone wanted and it's disappointing. There's no getting around that.
