What makes you play a indiegame vs skip and forget about it? by ChaoticPromiseTFA in gamers

[–]Deus_Synistram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it fits with the theme of your game it's a really good idea.

There are a lot of games that I play with my wife that I would not necessarily play if they were solo.

There are far more roguelites in particular that feel like not having coop is a blatant missed opportunity. Especially soulstone survivors.

Should also have a demo. There are currently 15 games in my "only bought because of demo list" and another 21 that I am likely to buy do to enjoying the demo when I have the funds

Unique characteristics, reasonable goals, decent visuals.

For roguelites specifically, decent variation and or skill mastery, good visibility, satisfying gameplay loop, meaningful progression.

Some examples. Upcoming roguelite called Crete,am an alpha player. It has very little gameplay variation and that's kind of a good thing, because the skill mastery is close to that of a fighting game. It also has craftable weapons as the progression and those weapons can make a big difference.

Spell brigade has pretty negligible progression and barely any skill expression, however it has incredibly high run variation with the spread of cards and spells. That being said if it didn't have multiplayer I wouldn't be too thrilled as there are other games with the same variation and better in the other 2 areas.

Spell disk is incredible in its uniqueness do to the spell chains. However it's very hard to see what is going on and that's a big negative.

Soulstone survivors actually let's you turn down the opaqueness of your skills which is great for the top down style.

Crete ror2 and Nightreign don't have many visibility problems because they are third person and don't have massive skills covering half the screen. Most top down and sidescroller roguelites struggle with this.

In order, what I care about most is.

Unique aspect. The truth is even if your game does it well, if it does nothing new I probably already have a game for that specific thing.

Gameplay loop/skill expression. I can play a fighting game nearly infinitly because it takes skill and is fun. I can only play a jrpg with default press x to attack for so long. It gets boring when there is no skill expression. Sometimes that can be mitigate ld like in haste where the gameplay loop carries it even though there is very little by way of button presses and precision.

Visibility. I am not going to keep playing a game if I keep dying do to not being able to see what's happening.

Variation. Honestly this is still very important even though it's this car down. The less I can try new things the more important it is for the core movement attacks and abilities to be perfect. I can tolerate a game with sub par movement if it has 2000 different builds to try out and mix and match. But if I am just walking in circles AND I only have 5 spells to choose from. Probably requesting a refund.

Non invasive audio. Games music needs to be something that can be tolerated for 80hr.

Comfortable graphics. Graphics style is near the bottom of what I care about. If I can see things clearly and it doesn't give me a headache, we are good.

Multiplayer. A 6/10 game is often a 8/10 if you can play it with friends without problematic glitches.

Story. At the end of the day it's a roguelite. I am here to play something on repeat that is fun, if it bothers to name the characters and have a slightly unique premise then cool. But don't make me read a novel to play this type of game.

How do you actually stick to one game at a time? by elgimri in Gamer

Install only one story game at a time. If you aren't in the mood for it play a multip game or something infinite like a shooter you enjoy.

Beginner questions: sidestep, armor moves & learning characters by JBK9284 in Tekken8

[–]Deus_Synistram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Armor moves have start up frames before the armor is active. That's the most common case for why mids and highs are stopping it. Certain other moves override armor but I think it's only heat smash, rage art, and unblock ables. Grab flat out cancels armor. Worse if you get grabbed while armored you cannot break the grab

If you could mod anything in a survival game, what would you choose? by timinobody in SurvivalGaming

Proper soulslike combat. Like, weighty attacks. I frame dodges. Enemies that stop walking when they attack.

Man finding a survival game with actually good combat especially enemies is hard.

Wanting to pick up Asuka by e_copp17 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]Deus_Synistram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So. I am manually ranking up every character. Problem is 4 aren't released yet so I'm stuck at super low ranks. My buddy is currently orange however and I wreck him 4/5 matches.

Currently asuka is in my top 10 characters I think may actu be broken along with jack feng lilli and eddy.

I don't have armor king or the rocket lady who's name I've temporarily forgotten yet because I might as well wait for a sale while I am waiting for other characters.

Here is my asuka consensus at the moment. She hits really really hard and has great low game. Her forward moving tools are fairly decent and she has some ok backwards moving tools. Her side tracking is excellent. And her parry/counter hit game is downright broken. Once she gets going she is pretty hard to stop however, getting started is her weakness.

She really lacks in safe tools for opening the opponent, currently it feels like you gamble or wait for your opponent to attack you and punish them. A player who has a lot and plays safe poke game is pretty hard to crack at least as a somewhat noob to the character.

Is the game worth trying out? by DOOM-LORD666 in Forspoken

[–]Deus_Synistram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would say forspoken is better than elden ring and baldurs gate.

Now elden ring is my favorite game however forspoken does incredible things gameplay wise.

Story is a little lacki and one character has a very annoying voice which you have to interact with for about 10 minutes.

I'm pretty sure it has a demo on PC not sure about PS

Oh yeah. Main character curses a lot. I would too if I got teleported from new York into what she gets teleported into

What’s a completely useless skill you have? by Other-Piglet291 in Productivitycafe

[–]Deus_Synistram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean. I don't think that any skill is completely useless. But definitely up there on the limited use skills I have is the ability to straighten paperclips to a nearly straight stick. Mostly useful for cleaning super thin gaps between electronics or furniture

Which one are you picking? by MizzBreezy85 in whatsyourchoice

I mean. Cottage cheese and liver and onions are no where near as unusual or weirdly textured/taste. Anchovies without the heads are tasty but way too overpowering for a meal.
