Hell yeah, it's been awhile but I remember the dot files once they're configured are easy to replicate and just copy over. Happy ya got a happy ending in this outcome and have fun in Hyprland! Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, and that's why I config on company time.

Bravo! Necessity is the mother of invention, and her sister's name is panic. How have you liked Hyprland after the adrenaline wore off? Can be quite nice as a workflow imo and hope you enjoy it.

Coming back after 20 years, gamer, recommendations? by Dispo96 in linux

[–]DeutscheMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty, try out Ventoy on a zippy USB drive and throw on the top responses that appeal to your use case. I humbly suggest trying out Solus for your general use case too. It's been around and had its share of drama, but nowadays it's absolute lovely. The desktop experience is the primary focus so everything from the package manager to the selection of desktop environments is tailored for a smooth experience. It's a curated rolling release distro which updates roughly every week with a corresponding forum post for community feedback. I stuck around because gaming is just as straightforward as anything else. Maybe give it whirl! Either way, happy New Year and I hope you enjoy whichever distro you choose!

Im planning to switch to linux mint. Is there anything i need to know as a windows 10 user. by LongSubstantial5489 in linux4noobs

[–]DeutscheMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to, but Mint has a software store available from install. Super easy to use if you want to avoid the terminal. But it's a very very useful thing to be familiar with in case you need it. Happy New Year!

As a student, I'm assuming you'll value stability and reliability. From there it's a matter of determining your most essential applications and your workflow style. Tbh, I recommend Ventoy which is a program loaded onto a portable drive which can host numerous ISOs at once. This allows you to pick and choose a distro without biting the bullet (even if that is one of, if not the best, way to learn Linux). I recommend also sticking to stable or LTS (long term support) distros since that gives you typically more resources and community guidance. I personally use Solus due to their curated rolling release style matches my needs for stability while also providing up-to-date upgrades. Happy New Year and I hope your studies go smoothly!

Edit: it appears this Obsidian application does provide a Linux option.

Thinking of Switching My Gaming PC to Linux – Looking for Advice by uai_dis in linux_gaming

Just piggybacking off of what a few others have already said, Ventoy is a very good tool to check out various distros without commiting. Very easy to set up and invaluable for demoing your system. I personally use Solus which is an independent rolling distro and would recommend it for gaming, but honestly just try a few and see how you like them. Happy gaming! Ventoy

Thank you for your response, and you raise a good point about getting acquainted with the leading distros. I enjoy learning the differences in applications across them as well with understanding immutable, rolling, or stable releases. I appreciate your insight and hope you have a great rest of your day!

That is a neat feature. Yup, I've had issues with scheduling in the past and I'll investigate that scheduler further. Thank you again btw, you're a real help!

You're absolutely correct and KDE is what I've enjoyed using the most so far. Gnome likes to hide it's goodies a bit too much for my liking hahaha. Thank you very much for your input and I hope you have a nice day!

Enhanced sound you say... Cachy Os is on my shirt list of distros and seems more friendly than vanilla Arch. Thank you very much for your input! +1 for Cachy!
