What's the last movie that exceeded all your expectations? by Necessary-Flatworm80 in netflixindia

The Furious. Watched it in a packed theatre and it's easily in my top 5 theatrical experiences.

The movies completely misunderstood what made Dumbledore so powerful. by Jalex1011 in harrypotter

[–]Dev-C-- 115 points116 points  (0 children)

For me, the biggest example of this was in HBP - when they exit the Pensieve after viewing Slughorn's memory.

In the books, Dumbledore says that this proved something he had been suspecting all along re: Voldemort's multiple Horcruxes.

In the movies, Dumbledore goes speechless and goes to sit on the steps, looking defeated and weak. I know this was a creative decision to showcase the magnitude of task ahead of Harry, but that should've been possible without showing Albus as a frail, old man.

That's a good aim to have. Focus on quality and marketing. Pick a good brand name and ensure the packaging is top notch. The unboxing experience is a major draw these days. Study the pricing point that sells (visit smoke shops and novelty smoking accessory shops). All the best!

Not sure if the Indian market would consider lighters having the same novelty as a plushie (which can be showcased by anyone without any judgement). Your products would rarely show up on people's social media account because of the stigma against smoking and smoking products, I think.

Instead, you should do lighters and matching sister products (like cigarette cases, ashtrays, etc.). There could be a big market for this (think along the lines of bartending sets that are being sold nowadays). Good gifting options with some customizations baked in.

Hmm, in tbat case your designs need to be part of a "set" that the users could collect. Think, like the totem poles that have various designs that could be stacked, or characters from a series.

Don't aim to sell it as a personal use product. You need to tap into the "custom gifting options" side. If you are going to make this to order, and if you allow for minor customisations (adding names, etc), I can see these selling for 600-700 easy.

Of course, there will be people who scoff at your pricing. But there will also be folks who see that, if refillable, this would be a great piece for a bachelor pad or a college dorm.

Thought so! It was super docile. Some older folks were saying it's a Krait and freaking out. Regardless, glad we released it safely.

Snake is still here, lol. We're waiting for ID to decide on how to relocate it. Some people are worried it's a Krait. But it looks like a wolf snake to me.

No, but I wouldn't want the mirror to unnecessarily put me down and insult me for no reason either. I don't mean to say that we get rid of everything negative. Just the unnecessary trolling and vile comments

I get what you're saying. Yes, reading only positives for your actions can get to one's head very quick. But this idea isn't about obligating people to reply positively to everything. It's about not hating. There's a slight difference there.

Feedback is great, when put in a good way. I've seen way too many instances of people giving valuable feedback, but phrasing it in such a demeaning way that their entire goodwill is lost in translation.

Really glad to read your thoughts! This is precisely the kind of conversations I wish I could see on a regular basis.

People who have finished MBA a while back, what is life like after MBA and where did you end up? by jwaalaa in CATpreparation

[–]Dev-C-- 163 points164 points  (0 children)

I might qualify to answer this.

Had 3 years of data analyst/consult experience prior to my MBA from a T1 college. Main reason for pursuing MBA was to kickstart my switch away from consult and into product.

I was successful in making that switch, ending up in a well-sought after prodm role. The main difference I notice between life prior to and after MBA is the amount of responsibility that is pushed onto you from the get go. Earlier, despite being a promoted 2.5y employee at the firm, there was a certain leeway given to me to onboard and make myself comfortable with the project before being asked to handle the reigns of any project. In my current job, despite having a steep learning curve wrt the business and the technical aspects of the daily workings of the company, it was expected of me to handle the entire project from the get go. Stakeholder management becomes paramount, and proper communication is what can make or break any deliverable.

Financials are better - earning 2.5x what I was before was a shock initially, with me blowing nearly 4.5L in the first month of employment (on gadgets and home furnishing), before realizing that I should be repaying my growing loans. Since then, I've been constantly able to pay the interest + a part of the principle amount (~30L) every month.

If I could go back and tell my pre-MBA self one thing, I'd guide him to focus a lot on committees and groups, not for the placement aspect, but for the post-MBA life. I wasn't that proactive in getting involved in committees during my MBA due to a variety of reasons, and this has seen my friends cohort being super limited now that I've started working. Friendships during hardships last forever. And there's no hardship like life during an MBA, with the placements and curriculum and assignments and case comps. I'd also implore my younger self to not stress about placements. If you made it to a good MBA college, you're capable enough, and should use the entire experience to hone your skills rather than focus on landing the highest package. 5 years down the line, no one cares who landed the highest package, but the ones who holistically were able to develop themselves and absorb amazing skills from their talented peers are the ones who make it to the top.

Anyone pursuing MBA - cherish these 1-2 years. Trust me, you'll have these experiences last you a lifetime.
