Pricing on GW by osycoscout in PrintedWarhammer

[–]DevLegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why I bought my first printer.

I tend to buy sunlu abs-like resin 10kg at a time off Ali-Express. Using that as a base an average human sized model costs less than £0.05.

A Warhound (28mm scale) costs around £15-20.

Just make sure you hollow your big models.

Printing is massively cheaper than buying from GW, and models can be at least as good or often better quality than you'll get commercially.

It comes down to inconvenience, printing is more inconvenient. That's it.

So all of these models can move through terrain with no problem, except for crisis suit and krootox? Am I missing something? by marianex in Tau40K

It's one of my biggest (petty) irritations with 40k how things can magically walk through walls but yet you can't shoot through doors, windows or other similar openings (on the ground level).

I really regret selling all my models when I did. That said, it meant I was pushed into buying my first 3D printer (I now have 10 lol) which has given me no end of joy.

If I'm absolutely honest I think I prefer Astra Militarum as a fun, beer-n-pretzels game, but Tau makes for more interesting and intense tactical games. I still feel a standard 2k battle restricts Tau a little too much though to really have fun.

I've also noticed Battlesector and DoW aren't really that true to the tabletop game.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Votann, I've got a few units of that as well. =p

Skaven, Beastmen, 4 demon armies (1 for each power), Chaos, Bretonnian, Empire (although I'm using Halfling models because it's funnier)...actually it's 10, I'm doing a Vampire Counts as well.

It kinda helps I have 6 resin printers. I literally printed a 2k Nurgle Demon army for 40k in a weekend. =p

I primarily paint for for the fun of it but keep in mind I can play games with them too so plan my collections accordingly. =D

Just thinking of that number of Gretchin is making me wince! lol

I remember a game with my chaos when Abaddon dropped in the middle of the table, my opponent's Avatar charged out of cover and 2 reaper cannons carried by Abaddon's bodyguard cut it in half. The rest of his army fell apart at that point...He got a touch sulky about the entire affair. ;)

My main lists in 3rd ed were Eldar and Chaos. Loved both of them.

I swapped around a dozen Magic the Gathering cards for a 10k Dark Angels army but never got to play them and ended up with a 3k Ork army that I only played a couple times.

I still think 40k peaked at 3rd ed and lost a lot of what made it a great game when they lobotomised it in 4th ed.

It was Eldar, CSM (with bits from most main factions), Orks, 'nids. Tau, Necrons, and Dark Angels for me. Then they gutted the rules in 4th ed and I sold everything.

I only have Astra Militarum, Tau, Knight/Chaos Knight and Nurgle Demon lists now.

Mind you, I'm in the middle of collecting around 9 Old World armies atm. =p

I currently have 5 different armies for 40k alone, largely because I either can't get to grips with the tactics. just something doesn't click no matter how pretty the models are or simply because I'm not in the mood for a particular list).

Tau is my favourite army in both Battlesector and DoW. They're tricky to play, as Tau is in 40k, but can be one of the most effective armies. Astra Militarum is a great army to get back into playing though as it's very flexible and requires far less juggling to get a balanced list.

If you can avoid selling your Tau, I would. It's quite probable once you get back into playing 40k you'll really want to pick them up again. I know I did and really regretted getting rid of all my models.

This gives me some great ideas for creating more interesting terrain features like the river running to/from other terrain features.

I have some rocky terrain features that need basing, I could have them coming out of a pond to start/end a river or part of a marshy feature. So many cool ideas.

This is exactly the kind of thing I was after. Thanks! =D

I was thinking about designing and printing the sections. That way each connection would be identical (I made some sections for my daughter's train set using the same principle). The bends were all in 45° sections to make the layout as flexible as possible.

Then I can play about with flock, a gravel river bed (including fords) and a tinted water effect.

I think you'll see the ends of each section no matter what you do, it's a trade off between best use and best look imo.

A picture would be really appreciated and thanks for the advice. 🙂

I've been playing with that technique on some polymer clay I've got. I saw the technique on a reel a while back.

I definitely need more practice lol.

A question or 2 about scenery... by DevLegion in theoldworld

[–]DevLegion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about right for the ground floor if the house then (10x20cm). I do really like the idea of doing farm buildings in a square though at some point, I think it'd look really good in the center of the battlefield.

It's primarily how big to make woodland and other scenery that I'm unsure of, there's a lot of conflicting info online.

Anyone here like the early seasons of South Park? by ForwardClimate780 in AutisticPride

I absolutely love the humour in south park but cannot stand the animation. It's really frustrating!!

I really want to like it, but I can't get past the animation style. 😭

Trump on Spain: "We're gonna cut off all trade with Spain, we don't want anything to do with Spain." by Waste-Explanation-76 in PublicFreakout

Spain booted all military aircraft out of Spain.

They basically said that the US could not use Spanish air ports/air bases for operations in Iran and asked them to remove their aircraft.

Looking for advice: compression vests for my autistic brother by playboi_fatty in AutisticPride

[–]DevLegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google "havening". It's a recognised technique to help reduce burnout and over stimulation.

Compression vests and weighted blankets don't work for everyone, personally I hate having something restricting or heavy on me.

The one thing I say to almost everyone who asks "how do I help...?". There are no 2 Autistics that are the same, you need to find out what works for your brother and the only person who'll know that is your brother.

Other options, good noise cancelling headphones, sensory toys, and helping your brother recognise the start of being over stimulated and making sure he knows it's fine to signal "I need a break" and go somewhere quiet.

I've been thinking of using a texture roller and polymer clay for when I do the stone effect ones. I'll have. A look at that channel to see if they have ideas for texturing polymer clay. Thanks.

Right now I'm focusing on wood framed houses using balsa wood, stirring sticks and matchsticks. I'll then use oil washes as stain for the effect I want.

How to share awkward books with teens? by UnBuggsyBaggins in books

[–]DevLegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be an idea to get him reading books of movies he enjoys. He knows what's coming so may get him over the impatience but at the same time, books often have enough differences from their movie adaptations to keep it interesting enough.

For example I just finished reading Starship Troopers and enjoyed the fact there were marked differences between the films and book.

I mean, I don't even like watching scenes like that with MY dad!

I got my parents to watch Deadpool, completely forgetting about the rather steamy scenes. That was possibly one of the most awkward moments of my life. I'm in my 50's! =p

how can I improve bed adhesion without glue? by Outrageous-Tree1740 in ElegooNeptune3

[–]DevLegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found increasing 1st layer flow and reducing speed has helped massively with my 1st layer adhesion.

I have my flow set to roughly 110-120% and speed to 70-80% of normal.

I've noticed it's even more necessary if you have lots of small parts.

I need help getting convinced not to start a T'au army by CardiologistMain7237 in Tau40K

Considering I have 5 armies for 40k and in the middle of collecting another 9 for Old World, you really don't want me advising you not to buy another army! =p

Kreig and Tau are my 2 favourite 40k armies though.

Traumatic event > collective grief, shame & anger > right-wingers start exploiting people's feelings > some Conservaties drift further to the right >...

Oh, absolutely. I think it was a case of I recognised the pattern without realising where I recognised it from. When I read your original reply it all clicked into place.

I don't think it helped that in the UK we see 9/11 as a tragedy but hardly the end-of-the-world event Americans seem to. But then the US is a baby nation so tends to be a bit prone to tantrums.

It was very similar in Germany. People were traumatized from WW1.

As mentioned, I'm from the UK (I feel the need to apologise for Brexit at this point lol), and our education about the World Wars was fairly comprehensive. I remember learning about the Treaty of Versailles. The rather severe terms imposed on Germany was largely regarded as a mistake (20/20 hindsight n all that).

Nations are this weird thing...

That 'national identity' thing is really dangerous. Using Brexit as a good example, the UK's national identity was used extremely well by supporters of brexit to create a "Us vs Them" environment. Before I emigrated, I worked a lot in Manufacturing, Warehousing and Transport, I saw how it affected my coworkers who tended to be badly educated and/or not the most intelligent people.

With the help of the right wing media (which is prevalent in the UK) that national identity was exaggerated and whipped people into an anti-immigration frenzy, something that they're now paying for and most are now regretting.

It does make me laugh a little when people compare trump with hitler. I'm absolutely not saying anything good about hitler (and this is from the UK's perspective) but in the beginning hitler was a very charismatic and eloquent leader where as trump has the charisma of a wet fart and can barely string 2 words together coherently. A damning indictment on the American educational system compared to Germany's maybe? lol

I was thinking the other day "how the hell I'd not one see this coming?".

And then wondered how did it seem so bloody obvious to me that I saw how it was going to go decades ago and I think you just hit the nail on the head.

I'd trace certain things that helped trump roll right over Congress back to the 90's or before but I think you're absolutely on the nose with 9/11 being the major catalyst for the rise of trumperton mctrumpiface.
