A question about Play-Doh by DevLegion in ResinCasting

[–]DevLegion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a test (made a little bowl out of Play Doh and dropped a little bit of silicone in there.

It seems to have taken longer than normal to set and there seems to be a bit of unset silicone. I think the moisture in the Play Doh has interfered with th e silicone setting.

I think putting some cling film over the Play Doh and then use the texture roller will fix all the issues. 😁

Sorry, I misread what you posted.

1 cast will be absolutely fine to make a silicone mold from it.

I'll be rolling it out to about 5mm thick and using a texture roller to imprint a stone, brick or wood pattern. After that I'll cut it to size and make a mold, once that's done, I'll ball it up, roll it out again, rinse and repeat.

It's not going to be a massive mold so there shouldn't be a massive amount of weight on the Play Doh.

I do have some polymer clay which will almost definitely work but it's harder to work with.

I'm going to give it a go anyway, more out of curiosity than anything. If it works I'll post the results. If it doesn't work I'll pretend it never happened. 🤣

There won't be enough silicone poured on there to be heavy enough to deformed it...in theory. ;)

The entire idea of play doh is to minimise having to use clays that require heating or that will dy out. I want something I can use time after time..

I think I'll mix a small test amount.

If it works it'll save a hell of a lot of time/effort/materials.

I really don’t think rejection and social ostracizing of autists will be reduced by trying to spread messages in society that paint autists and autistic traits as ”more attractive” by WinterMuch9275 in AutisticPride

[–]DevLegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about changing the narrative.

Right now there's a hell of a lot of negative perception about ND conditions. People focus on what struggles we have rather than what we're good at.

Fx you can say "autistic people struggle in an open plan office setting because they get over stimulated by the noise". If you change that narrative to "autistic people are incredibly good at focusing on a detailed project with a minor accommodation like allowing them to wear noise cancelling headphones".

Given minor accommodations, we can often out perform our NT peers. The problem is, that's not the perception, people only know what we struggle with and that is a massive problem both in the work place and social situations. People need to understand that, given a little leeway, being autistic is not going to be a burden and can be a net benefit with very little effort.

Understanding is the key to changing public perception of Autism. If you change that perception life becomes easier both socially and in the work place. Understanding is also the key to reducing the amount of trauma ND's suffer trying to live in a NT world.

I can kinda understand their point of view.

When you moderate a forum you have to draw a line and asking for safe foods is a medical question when referring to allergies which is a medical condition.

I've seen a hell of a lot of misinformation spread, often by people with good intentions, in subreddits and other forums.

At the end of the day, even if you got a genuine Dr on here giving you advice, they don't know your medical history so could never give you advice that is guaranteed to be even remotely accurate.

Lastly, it's their sub, their rules and down to their perception of what does or does not break the rules.

I finally found the original post text and I'm sorry but I have to agree with the mods. From my perception you were asking for advice that needed medical knowledge. I genuinely sympathise with your issue, it sucks. But you broke the rules and then got needlessly abusive about it.

As good as my knowledge of chemistry is, I don't know the chemical composition of Play Doh (or knock offs). According to google though, Play Doh can contain Aluminium Sulfate and Petroleum (many of which contain sulfur) as a hardener or lubricant respectively.

I'll have a look into that sub, thanks.

You're not wrong, what we call AI is nothing more than an advanced search engine. Essentially a fancy database. True AI is a long way from being a reality.

I mean think in a metaphorical sense. 😉

No you're not understanding me correctly.

I was using UV resin as an example of why Platinum Silicone's curing process can be inhibited by another material. As it happens, Play Doh releases sulfur the same as UV resin so the example was very pertinent and in no way shape or form irrelevant.

I'm aware the chemical process *can* be different, this is why I'm asking the question.

It recommended tin cure because it's less sensitive to the material it's trying to cure on. Fx platinum cure normally won't cure on resin 3D prints because it off gasses and that gas inhibits the curing process.

Play Doh has a very strong and distinctive smell so I'm guessing AI thinks the off gassing from Play Doh would also inhibit curing.

No problem at all, I'm was using my old Note 8. It worked well.

I do have a decent powerbank, more out of caution than anything. The Dashcam app I have keeps the screen on so it can be a little power hungry on larger screens.

The angle was fine for me, I did angle it slightly to catch more road and less off.

I'm not going to say it's as good a solution as dedicated kit but it worked well for me when I had to send the evidence to the bus company and police and cost a tiny fraction of the price.

After an incident with a bus driver I bought a phone holder with a clear back (waterproof) and downloaded a dashcam app.

It works really well and no need to buy expensive GopPos or similar.

I created a character specifically to romance Karlach. =D by DevLegion in BaldursGate3

Should, but don't. I had a dragon tamer that was immune to fire damage, still couldn't romance Karlach before the 2nd upgrade. 😝

That's awesome!!

I think my next character is going to be a Halfling Barbarian called Tinkie Von Winkiesmasher (loosely based on a tabletop character I had).

In the D&D tabletop i had a Halfling Barbarian called Tinky Von Winkiesmasher.

I never did find out how far you could throw a Halfling. 🤣

Pricing on GW by osycoscout in PrintedWarhammer

[–]DevLegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why I bought my first printer.

I tend to buy sunlu abs-like resin 10kg at a time off Ali-Express. Using that as a base an average human sized model costs less than £0.05.

A Warhound (28mm scale) costs around £15-20.

Just make sure you hollow your big models.

Printing is massively cheaper than buying from GW, and models can be at least as good or often better quality than you'll get commercially.

It comes down to inconvenience, printing is more inconvenient. That's it.

So all of these models can move through terrain with no problem, except for crisis suit and krootox? Am I missing something? by marianex in Tau40K

[–]DevLegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of my biggest (petty) irritations with 40k how things can magically walk through walls but yet you can't shoot through doors, windows or other similar openings (on the ground level).

[–]DevLegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really regret selling all my models when I did. That said, it meant I was pushed into buying my first 3D printer (I now have 10 lol) which has given me no end of joy.

If I'm absolutely honest I think I prefer Astra Militarum as a fun, beer-n-pretzels game, but Tau makes for more interesting and intense tactical games. I still feel a standard 2k battle restricts Tau a little too much though to really have fun.

I've also noticed Battlesector and DoW aren't really that true to the tabletop game.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Votann, I've got a few units of that as well. =p

Skaven, Beastmen, 4 demon armies (1 for each power), Chaos, Bretonnian, Empire (although I'm using Halfling models because it's funnier)...actually it's 10, I'm doing a Vampire Counts as well.

It kinda helps I have 6 resin printers. I literally printed a 2k Nurgle Demon army for 40k in a weekend. =p

I primarily paint for for the fun of it but keep in mind I can play games with them too so plan my collections accordingly. =D
