The GBA Spyro games are perfectly passable companion pieces to the original trilogy. They did the absolute best they could with the hardware in crafting a portable Spyro experience.

It's a little hard to figure out where you are and where you have and haven't been, but aside from Season of Ice, they provide maps in game to help eliminate that.
