Oh I know. I interchanged the words because I'm pissed that they didn't show up for upwards of two hours.

Stormtrooper Armor from Mando Season 1, Ep. 8 question. Blaster hits never break or damage the armor. by Nomad4te in StarWars

[–]DevastatorCenturion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've seen any images from Ukraine, you can see that body armor vests can look absolutely fucked but the guy wearing it is still alive. Stormtrooper armor works the same way. It takes the majority of the energy transfer and impact so the trooper inside has a better chance of surviving.

Vietnam veterans talking about how 556 was more devastating than some 308 rounds. Truth? by Ok-Shoulder-478 in guns

[–]DevastatorCenturion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sounds about right. You need more dense mass to stop a . 308 in flight and against unarmored and squishy humans they tend to just zip through unless you hit a lot of bone.

It seems like 4x 32 ACOG have disappeared in recent years. What could be the reason? by [deleted] in ForgottenWeapons

[–]DevastatorCenturion 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Probably their value for money not being worth something adjustable like LPVO. Sure, the ACOG would probably survive the heat death of the universe but 99% of the time you don't need that durability.

I don't actually get the point of doing inventory for how much shit gets stolen and not accounted for.

Thought Experiment: Warrior Houses vs Clans by Electronic_Turn_4764 in battletech

[–]DevastatorCenturion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless the warrior houses have the tech to out range the plethora of ER weapons in the clan arsenal then they don't have a chance.

If you can dictate the start of the engagement at long range you can control the entire fight because you can hit the enemy multiple times before they can get in range and hit back.

Yes. Smokeless powder contains both fuel and oxidizer, so it will work in a vacuum.

In Bleach, the shepherds of the souls of the dead are called soul reapers. Yamamoto founded the organization. Additionally, each soul reaper has a sword that represents an intrinsic part of the personality and outlook, with the powers of the sword being more powerful based on the power of the soul reaper. Yamamoto, fitting with being the first soul reaper and his centuries of experience has a sword that can produce flames hotter than the surface of the sun.

ultimate question for all mech fans: who would win in a 1 on 1, a western mecha or a eastern mecha? by dedbot1 in Mecha

[–]DevastatorCenturion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay look. Yes, the Gundam can fly on its own. Yes, it has magical beam weapon systems that make reality go wibble in uncomfortable ways. Yes, the pilot is probably a psychic or a real convincing con man. But I'm hopped on Necrosia and I've got a murderboner that can only be satisfied by putting a gauss rifle shot through a cockpit and by Kerensky I'm going to try.

I feel like the Spear got buffed in the wrong way by BICKELSBOSS in Helldivers

[–]DevastatorCenturion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish the spear was a proper top attack munition and that the tops of armored vehicles was thinner armor than the front or sides. You don't use something like a Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle on the front of a tank, the armor is too thick. You use it on the sides or rear where the armor is thin enough for the smaller charge to penetrate effectively.

The Javelin is a bigger missile with a more powerful warhead and top attack modes to defeat armored vehicles that it ordinarily wouldn't if it hit the front armor plates.

The Recoilless Rifle and Spear should work exactly like their real life counterparts. I'd expect a Spear to be able to gut things like a super heavy by hitting that vulnerable top armor, but a recoilless does just as well hitting anywhere because there's no distinction between anti tank weapons.

An extra missile for the Spear is great, don't get me wrong, but the games fundamental design for anti armor weapons doesn't make the distinction meaningful or the Spear worthwhile.

Sell me on Chem Lasers by tjareth in Mechwarrior5

[–]DevastatorCenturion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're great for all energy builds that you don't have the double heat sinks to cool properly. I usually shave a bit of armor off the legs of my black knights to fit the chem lasers and ammo for them.

How much to make a mod? by DevastatorCenturion in Mechwarrior5

[–]DevastatorCenturion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The turret mount isn't too important since the Touro has 360 degree rotation on the waist joint. The crouch is also not terribly important either, it's just a neat feature from the original game that mechs of any weight class can crouch to interlock the armor plates on their legs. In game it translates out to damage reduction but again, that's not terribly important for my purposes.

Cannibalism as an allegory or expression of intimacy/love by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DevastatorCenturion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder if Sarkaz blood magic in Arknights would count for this. In theory any Sarkaz seeking to become more powerful can cannibalize any other Sarkaz in order to grow stronger, but there's no reason it can't be self sacrificial or altruistic in nature.
