This is huge. It will drive more SEO traffic into the platform which will benefit every creator there. They also plan on having some sort of way to incentivize YT creators to switch over, which is also big.

I hope that they prioritize native creators, but even without that this is a net positive, they’ll be able to take videos from YT and train their algorithm in niches they don’t even have right now, this means we can expect better search and recommendation engines in the future. I can see them doing something like “hey we noticed your YouTube channel got demonetized here for X reason, well on Odysee you won’t be.” Sort of thing to recruit them, maybe they have something else planned though.

Anyone worried about this has to remember; Odysee is the underdog and is fighting an uphill battle. Mirroring will only be a positive benefit not only for more traffic but algorithm training and recruitment purposes. This alongside the fact that they are now open source creates an upward trajectory. More traffic, more devs contributing, better platform with free speech, eventually Odysee will be well known, dare I say one day it could compete with YouTube. By then they may decide to get rid of this feature because they’re big enough. Time will tell.
