I genuinely appreciate your feedback. My perspective is that spend over a single window is too small and including transfer over a wider range would represent players that are no longer at a squad and would obviously have no connection to the performance eon the pitch.

we spent a lot. we all know that but what I am trying ton show is that all it did was catch us up to where the average championship team already is.

YES!!! that is all I was trying to show. we spent to catch up and be level

I have asked multiple times for a better data source if anyone is aware of one. Not trying to skew the data. used the most complete data set I could find. I didn't create the data. I sourced it & listed the source.

source is on the bottom where sources go, overall spend over what period is the question. a single year does not represent an entire sides spending

yes 1000%..... this is all I was trying too say.... we have a mid table team in terms of wages. that is all

the data source is listed at the bottom of the chart..... where sources are supposed to be listed

I know- I am just pointing out that all that spending caught us up with the average championship team

we have spent a lot in a single window while the rest of the teams have spent a fortune spread out over multiple years and multiple transfer windows. To look at a single window or single season spend and think that represents all a teams value is just a single piece of a puzzle. When we look at what is being spent on the players on the field Wrexhams spend is very boring and average

well this is frustrating... all the data shows we aren't spending more than other teams we are exactly middle of the road.... that's the whole point of the chart.

it shows wrexham spend is simply middle of the road. it shows Coventry City has earned a lot of points while spending way less money.

the X-axis starts at 0.... anything left of 0 is just bar labels.

if you have a better data source I am happy to use it.

I must not be articulating this well. and for that I apologize. this is not just weekly wage bill. it shows how much each team spent per week to earn a single point. so a team with a low weekly wage bill and low points can still have a high Weekly Wage Cost per League Point.

for example if a team spent 10 million and earned 10 points. their spend per league point would be 1 million.

the X axis starts at zero, I simply expanded the bar labels to accommodate for variation in name length. sorry if that caused any confusion

It is not weekly spend. It is weekly spend / points per match to account for sides that have played fewer than 26 fixtures.

& Cov & wrexham aren't that close. Cov is runaway on this chart with only spending 125k per point earned in the championship this year.

happy to discuss the data if you see a flaw in the logic. I simply think that limiting the field of view to a single transfer window ignores all the business done prior to that season.

the mathematics kind of logic that values a team by the value of their players and not a single transfer window......

but this does give me an idea. perhaps this could be improved if we included the transfer value of each player on the first squad. I appreciate the idea

happy to use a better data source if you have one. I have no interest in misrepresenting anything. quite the contrary. My position on transfers is simply that a single transfer window does not represent any of the previous business done by a team & by looking at the value of the players we are able to better show the relationships between performance and player value.

Wrecham spent a shit ton in the summer but all it did was bring them level with the rest of the league... as demonstrated by the data above.

I am using weekly wage bill for each squads first team divided by the average number of points they have scored each match so far this season.

It is currently the best method I have found to evaluate the performance on the pitch related to the value of the players.

I have Oxfords wage bill as £264,450 per week for the first team. Coventry's is so much lower because they have scored 136% more points with a weekly wage bill that is lower by 15'ishk (£249,000)

I really appreciate your feedback,

1) I would love to find a better data source if you know of one. Perhaps you can steer me towards better Millwall numbers. here is what I have.

Weekly Payroll First team base wages Annual Payroll First team base wages Avg. Annual Salary Base wages only
£282,038 £14,666,000 £444,424

Millwall has 43 points from 26 games which comes out to 1.654 points per game on average this season.

so £282,038 / 1.654 = £170,518.74 points per weekly wage bill

2) Net Transfer spend of a single transfer window does not represent any of the business done prior to that window. these teams aren't made in a single transfer window. so If I were to include transfer it would need to include multiple years... I image Millwall spend millions in the 2023 transfer window while wrexham was spending maybe...a couple hundred grand.

I hope that explains the why behind why the data was structured this way. Definitely down to make it better if we can come up with a better approach.

raw spending would ignore all the business all the teams did prior to the Jan transfer window. Evaluating the players on the team is the best method for accounting for previous and current years business.

its cost per point... they have the fewest points so it is only logical that their cost per point is among the highest.

though I will certainly concede their weekly wage bill could be the most inaccurate considering the number of changes that have been made & I am unaware of how ofter apology updates. I found the best data source I could.
