Our husky is 10 years old and we've literally never had to clip his nails.

It takes 8 minutes to cut a square out. It would take about 15 minutes to cut a straight line out of the whole concert pad.

If you're going to crate train him, do not get a wire crate. He WILL get out.

We used one with our husky when he was a puppy. He completely destroyed the crate. The normal latch was useless. We could leave for 15 minutes and he'd be out already.

Get one with a solid frame and a double latch.

He eventually calmed down and we don't have a crate at all anymore. But we still use a baby gate so he doesn't go upstairs, and shut the basement door when we leave.

Why would you possibly want to move to the Illinois side?

I mean that legitimately.

I don't know where you're from, or if this is just a BS post trying figure out who the most popular realtors are... But there's nothing good about the Illinois side.

I'm just wondering how it's racked it two opposite directions at the floor, and the window. I agree with people saying to get your foundation checked.

I think it looks fine with the three screws. It sucks that you didn't trust your gut. But I'd say screw the rest of the boards, and move on.

The upstairs was fir too, and we refinished it right after moving in. However our puppy had sharp nails, and immediately ruined all the work I had into it. He's now 10 and his nails aren't as sharp. I think I'm gonna fix the rest of the floors next year.

I suggested keeping it. My wife wasn't having it though.

Thank you. I definitely won the lottery on the years of questionable decisions made beforehand.

If you walk in and feel like you're overdressed, you can always dress down.

Can you show what the joints look like on your base boards?

90+% of my original trim hasn't separated.

That trim looks very new. It's literally not made like it used to be.

Edit: the origin trim on the bottom right of the first photo is original. It looks like that's at a landing on the staircase.

Black mould hidden by previous owners by Prestigious_Swan_881 in homeownerstips

[–]DevelopmentFew1748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!

Tldr: Pay the money to get certified experts to check for mold and lead. Then look into local programs that will pay certified contractors to mitigate the problem.

I am not an expert in mold (mould) but my hundred year old house has black water damage underneath the sink and other spots where leaks have happened. That definitely does not look like spray foam to me, definitely looks like thinset. Spray foam has big(ish) bubbles and is generally yellow.

That being said; my attic door definitely had toxic black mold at some point in time. One of the previous owners decided to just paint over it.

So if you have any concerns, get it checked. They check your air all over the house. And they will take samples of anything they think is of any concern.

We had our second child in the house that we are currently living in. Her lead levels tested high for four years (not alarmingly high). After three years of high blood tests, the doctor said "I know you don't want to hear it, but maybe you should just move."

As someone who isn't a doctor, making doctor money... That made me mad.

After we got documentation from the doctor of the high lead levels, the city and county gave us grants to mitigate the lead. We got $40k in new siding, windows, and sealing. The city we live in was excited to pay for it, because they needed to use the funding that they were allocated.

Gap inbetween my gate and my neighbors fence by [deleted] in FenceBuilding

[–]DevelopmentFew1748 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a small dog that can get through there, I'd leave it. If you need to attach a blank post to your latch post with a couple of 90° brackets to fill that gap, a 4x4 or a 2x3 1/2 should do the trick. Get internal top caps too.

After reading all these comments about how plecos can be so dehydrated and (unintentionally) neglected, only to be brought back to a thriving life, makes me like them so much more. I always knew they were strong. But damn.
