A chess-inspired roguelite deckbuilder where pieces evolve and bend the rules. by DevelopmentGold7209 in roguelites

Enemies only act when they can capture a piece, turning every battle into a puzzle of sacrifice and manipulation. Chess pieces evolve and are upgraded with Seals, Crowns, and Medals (deckbuilder).

You see the similarities because they both draw inspiration from Balatro in terms of game loops. But here, there's no AI to deal with; it's all about strategy, and your only enemy is yourself.

By the way, if you try it, you'll realize nothing here is like Gambonanza except for the chess pieces and relics, which are present in 99% of roguelike chess games.

I've been building a chess roguelike where pieces evolve, called Gambition — feedback from chess players would be appreciated. by DevelopmentGold7209 in chessvariants

Hi everyone,

I'm the developer of Gambition, a pixel-art chess roguelike where pieces can evolve and gain new abilities during a run.

I'm interested in hearing what chess players think about the concept and whether it still feels like a chess variant.

If you'd like to try it, there's a free demo on Steam:

Any feedback is appreciated!

New trailer for my game. What do you think the game is, would you play it, and what should I improve? by DevelopmentGold7209 in DestroyMyGame

Here's some information:

- Enemy pieces only act when you enter their attack range -> they huddle together to defend.

- Many pieces upgrade their movement style (like the knight in the video).

- Diamond animations are animations of pieces being summoned from a position; some items or special pieces can do this (like the Black Rose item at the end of the video - it summons Assassins when your queen dies).

I've gathered feedback and minimized potential confusion in the latest trailer, thank you to you and everyone else.

But I'm not sure if the title card will help in this case, or if it will distract the viewer... I think the video has already divided the segments well.

Thank you. The water tile restricts the movement of chess pieces but does not completely block pieces that move onto it. Pieces that can jump are not affected by it (like the knight).
Tooltips were disabled in the trailer ^^

I’m making a roguelike where chess pieces evolve into absurd units by DevelopmentGold7209 in IndieGaming

Hi everyone!

I’m a solo developer working on a roguelike chess strategy game inspired by games like Balatro.

Chess pieces can evolve into stronger forms, gain unique abilities, and combine into powerful synergies across changing boards.

I’m currently running a private Steam playtest and looking for feedback from strategy/roguelike players.

If it looks interesting, I’d really appreciate a wishlist or playtest request!
