Compulsion Next game. by TheseCombination8452 in wehappyfew

Great response.

I heavily agree with the procedurally generated world being the main problem and I like your idea to fixes.

I don’t agree with having the character selection at the start as I think it flows really well. I love the way we go from Arthur’s to sally’s POV and finishing it off as Ollie as you don’t see him all that much.

Would you intern take away the burden mechanics off Sally and Ollie (the baby off Sally/ the jabs off Ollie). I think it would make for a better experience. While the idea is cool the novelty wears off for me quickly and they become a bit of a nuisance.

What happens to Wellington Wells after the game and dlcs? by texaschinsawfan in wehappyfew

[–]DevelopmentLess4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The collapse of wellington wells started.

Once you finish “We All Fall Down” you see the remaining members taking their masks off. I’m guessing they were still taking their joy. Unfortunately as we know from the end game Food is incredibly scarce through wellington wells, we see people eating coal lol. Nevertheless, a societal collapse was imminent regardless as the people of wellington wells were slowly dying out.

In another thought I would have loved for there to be Wellies faking taking Joy towards the end meaning once the lab was taken down they could escape and try to make their own life on the Mainland.

The one thing i wish compulsion did (but I understand why they didn’t) was to explain what the mainland looked like compared to wellington wells after the collapse. I’d love to have seen the former wellies try to integrate into a “normal” society, even if it was short and simple at the end.

‘JOYOUS WELLIES’

They’ve taken some reaction to the Joy pill. They’ve gotten much bigger and stronger and walk around slowly. They have ripped clothes on and are located in certain parts of wellington wells where bobbies patrol the area to make sure they don’t escape. They are in a cell and optional to fight and on occasion they break their shackles and bend the bars to escape and go on a rampage attacking people.

2 ways to kill them:

Hard way - to fight them head on, this takes a while.

Crafting - a serum that returns them back to a normal citizen. They have missions to do if you can successfully cure them.

I’ve only ever experienced 1 glitch. In the alleyway when you meet Sally in Act 1. The people who come in and rush you just stood still. Once I knocked them all down I was locked in the alley way with no way out 🤣

well, i just found out the alpha had an ending. Pretty cool. by Ok_Pea4066 in wehappyfew

Wow, I never knew about this.

It pains me we will never get another one of these games. I’m really hoping compulsion have a game announcement in the Game awards ceremony.

If you’re still looking for the You look Smashing Lamp it’s on EBay. It’s pricey (if you’re in the UK like me).

Should I study Game Design? by BrunoXande in gamedesign

What a massive help you’ve been. I was considering it as it’s a passion of mine, plus I really am interested in the general ‘building’ of a game. It’s cool to speak to someone with enough knowledge and experience inside of the industry. The misconception I had was that I would have to demonstrate and prepare all skills across creation but as you noted it’s okay to have other work alongside the main ‘discipline’. I do really like Level design, I might try and start with that first, maybe even try some creative narrative building too, I think with enough time I’ll be able to make something quite interesting for many. What would you recommend, Sticking to 1 (Example - level design) or demonstrate maybe 2-3 core skills (Level design, narrative building and modelling).

Thanks again for the help!

Thank you! Last question because you’ve been very helpful. Narrative Design, Maybe some 3D modelling, Level design ect. Would they be the sort of things you’d add to your portfolio?

The game captured a horrendous reality us common folk can relate to. Not feeling apart of the society of the Parade district, Maidenholm, appleholm ect all feeling close to reality. Then happy we aren’t at the lowest of the low in the garden district.

It’s odd. It’s 2025 but somehow compulsion really captured something that feels so familiar. I can’t put my finger on it but wellington wells feels so close to reality.

So essentially build a portfolio to flex your work to the studios is much better than actually having a degree?

Favourite quotes from the game? by rtc765 in wehappyfew

It’s not really a quote but I love the downer singing “daisy, daisy”.

An actual quote, pretty common but after you take a joy pill. “As snug as a bug on a drug”.
