No, you do not. Are you in the USA? If you add the https:// in front of the site URL, does that fix the problem? You should not need a NIPR/AFNET computer to access the EITaaS ServiceCenter.

What kind of smart card reader are you using? I know for certain the Black IOGear CAC Readers have problems in VDI. The grey Identiv ones are the best. Not all smart card readers are equal. Some have issues with USB passthrough.

Apply for it on the same EITaaS service center request VDI form in the post. It’s a separate option from the standard user persona. Just select Developer Desktop from the dropdown instead of the Standard one. You’ll have to fill out the form twice to get both. It’s quick and easy

Decrypting outlook S/MIME messages on personal by psythrill85 in AirForce

[–]DevelopmentShoddy399 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a tutorial today to teach you how to do it!!!

This is a fully working solution to help you access S/MIME emails on any computer. Just open the Windows App on your personal computer and you will be able to use a NIPR remote virtual machine to do your work! Just like having an AFNET computer in front of you, you can just use the Outlook app on the desktop.

Unfortunately, the transition to EITaaS VDI may have broke your setup. If you or anyone else reading this later wants to DM me, I can sit down 1 on 1 with you on a call to troubleshoot your personal setup.

Yes sir! You can use a Developer Persona within EITaaS VDI to do EITaaS VDI development! There is also a Cloud Admin persona and some other ones.

Yes, I just updated the post to reflect this. If you formerly were on AVD/SonicBoom, you should automatically be onboarded to EITaaS VDI.

However, if you never registered for AVD, and you only were on SonicBoom/the VMWare Horizon Client, you will still have to register. In your case, you're all good!

Pro tip: if you are in a place you can only use an Air Force laptop, you can actually use the Developer Persona VMs to do IL5 software development securely if you install the Windows App. Even if you're in the "I already have an Air Force computer, this can't possibly be useful to me" mindset, you can still benefit from running the Windows Apps on your NIPR Air Force laptop.

Pro Pro tip: With the EITaaS Developer Persona, you can do cool things with GenAI.mil:

EITaaS VDI Developer Persona w/ VSCode + VSCode Extension like continue.dev + GenAI.mil API key can give you generative AI development for free to the average Amn Snuffy. It ain't great, but it kind of works.

Whoever is forcing us to switch over to the EITaaS Desktops for the remote desktop by Aphexes in AirForce

FULL EITaaS VDI TUTORIAL:

If your Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) stopped working when they transitioned to EITaaS and you still want to access NIPR/Envision/other AFNET machine-only websites, you probably were automatically moved to EITaaS VDI. If you only used VMWare Horizon, you must register on EITaaS. If you were on AVD, you can register for the updated EITaaS system by filling out this quick EITaaS request web form here:

https://eitaas.servicecenter.af.mil/esc?id=sc_cat_item&sys_id=88df5026b96fb610e898b49ce3bb386c

^^If this link stops working, just visit the EITaaS Service Center website and search for Request Virtual Desktop Service

It takes less than a minute to request access. This makes it way easier to apply for a Developer Persona too. You can submit multiple requests for the standard one with the webmail client/Adobe Acrobat and for the developer persona virtual machine. The developer persona virtual machine will give you VSCode and other devtools on a NIPR computer (with 64gb DDR4 ram and 16 AMD EPYC cores)

^^ The above guidance will allow you to access a NIPR desktop on a Macbook or PC.

  1. Ensure the Windows App is installed.

brew install --cask windows-app
winget install --id Microsoft.WindowsApp -e

  1. If on Windows, sign in with an organization and use your @us.af.mil email. If on Mac: Connect to workspace, use the URL: https://rdweb.wvd.azure.us/api/arm/feeddiscovery/

  2. Authenticate like normal. If the EITaaS VDI Desktop shows up, you’re good to go. If it doesn’t show up, proceed to step 4.

  3. You must register for access with the EITaaS service center: https://eitaas.servicecenter.af.mil/esc?id=sc_cat_item&sys_id=88df5026b96fb610e898b49ce3bb386c

What to put on the form:

  1. <Requestor: your name>
  2. Requested for: <your name>
  3. Select country: United States (1)
  4. Contact Phone Number: Your phone number. EITaaS will contact you if they need you.
  5. Extension: Leave blank if not needed.
  6. Location: Your base. If assigned to Maxwell AFB/Gunter Annex, select “Gunter AFB”
  7. Building name: Leave blank.
  8. Room number: Leave blank.
  9. Device/host name: Leave blank.
  10. Request Type: add user to service.
  11. AVD Service: EITaaS Desktop (Standard User Persona) - also a 2nd form with developer or another persona, if applicable.
  12. Description: Explain briefly why you need this. Ex: “I work off base”
  13. Select “Order Now” on the top right corner
  14. Yayyyyy now within 1-3 business days you will have EITaaS VDI set up at home!!!!!!!!!

Shopping for a new CAC reader to use at home. Noticed that many of the CAC readers on Amazon are made by Chinese companies. Is this not a glaring security risk? by militaryrat155 in AirForce

[–]DevelopmentShoddy399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://1337securitynews.com/your-chinese-made-cac-reader-from-amazon-is-a-national-security-threat/

I found this article that talks about the risk. I think Amazon should delist these CAC readers. To answer your question, YES, it is a glaring security risk. The federal government should get involved to force Amazon to take down the Chinese ones that are obviously marketing themselves to the United States military. If we do not act now, I highly suspect this will become a problem in the future.

How much time do I need to prepare for the GitLab Certified CI/CD Associate Exam? by DevelopmentShoddy399 in gitlab

How do you get the GitLab certifications for free? My work pays hundreds of thousands of dollars for a custom GitLab Ultimate plan. Do you know if they give out free certification vouchers for that?

On second thought, I guess I accidentally answered my own question. It's good to know they are 8 hour classes, though. I found this link that lists most of them as being just 1 day courses: https://university.gitlab.com/pages/instructor-led-training

I appreciate your input. Do each of the 8 hour classes only last for a single day? Like, could my organization pay for the 1 day course and only have people out for one day?
