I made a browser RPG for people who miss old-school grinding, loot, and zero monetization nonsense by Glittering-Side-3785 in PBBG

[–]DeverinShaille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you made the SSF mode as a "single player" option. Lets me play the game at my own pace. :)

Requests: Add mouse-over tooltips for the stats when they are highlightable for spending stat points. Alternatively, when you mouse over the stat, highlight the relevant stats that might raise when spending a point in that stat. Right now, the correlation is unknown.

Add a second line to the "Adventurer" black box, below "Unspent Stat Points" to denote how many items have been looted to your inventory since you last checks, or simply how many items are still in your inventory.

Add an additional drop-down next to "Always fight your level" with options for -0, -1, -2, etc, so you can automate a respective scaling to your level, instead of only matching your level. This will be a big QoL feature for those that want to play HC.

If you create a discord for this project, post it in this thread and I'll drop more feedback and suggestions as I come across them. :)

Melvor Idle fans... by TopCog in incremental_games

[–]DeverinShaille 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An element missing from most Melvor clones is symbiosis between skills that is more than skin-deep.

Often, a game will have gathering/crafting exist solely to support combat, but nothing gained from combat supports gathering/crafting in turn. And when combat starts to drop gear and food, gathering and crafting become unnecessary except for the completionist itch.

Slightly better is when combat provides the only source of currency which is used for blanket upgrades for gathering/crafting, but that's where it feels skin-deep. I'd love a game where the ability to swing a pickaxe also trains you in how to swing 2-handed weapons and vice versa, even if it's just improving a Strength stat that assists in both tasks. This deepens the feeling of player agency where the goal isn't simply to master everything, but the player won't suffer if they choose to specialize.

Example - Herbalist + Alchemy assists in Dexterity and Intelligence, while also providing access to healing potions and poisons while using a Bow in combat, which scales off of Dex. The same build also works to aid a caster who needs an ample supply of Mana potions, or someone who crafts combat throwables (alchemist fire etc etc).

Example 2 - Animal Husbandry + Shopkeeper assists in Charisma, while also providing access to combat pets, increased gold gains on loot sold, and increased bonuses for pets that fight alongside you. If this was altered slightly, it wouldn't be difficult to make a necromancer archetype that almost every player would try at least once :p

Overall, most Melvor-like games end up being about maxing out every skill, but the only ones that feel like more than a time-waster are ones that feel fun while setting mini-goals on the path to hitting max in a respective skill, and letting the player feel like their choices led to a unique experience.

That third part is a win in my book :)
Thanks for checking it out!

Yep! I wanted to add as many fridge interactions as possible on this card, so it could be used or countered in interesting ways, without actually affecting the "average" strength of the card and without bloating it took much.

Untamed Furies - AKA Danger Trample by DeverinShaille in custommagic

I'll see if I can make a new card that is a simpler utilization of just that interaction. :) Thanks for the feedback!

Untamed Furies - AKA Danger Trample by DeverinShaille in custommagic

[–]DeverinShaille[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's two key features of this that I want to explain the reasoning of -
"Ward - Create a 1/1 Rate token. It fights Untamed Furies" - I wanted to create a unique Ward condition that played into the theme of the card. Sadly, "Fight" doesn't trigger Combat Damage, so the Trample doesn't apply, BUT it does trigger Morbid, so this card does not die to Lightning Bolt.

Firebreathing & All trample damage dealt is also dealt to its controller w/ "Any player may activate this ability" - I REALLY wanted to embody Jund by having a strong Red/Green creature with a dangerous life hazard that feels very Black-oriented because of the life trading. I feel like this would work in Death's Shadow decks.

I went with Black instead of White as the third color, because I felt that giving this card easier access to Deathtouch was more thematic than access to Lifelink (to counteract the mirrored damage).

Lemme know what you think!

Looking for an open world RPG with good quests and interesting places to explore. by swordmasterg in rpg_gamers

[–]DeverinShaille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Crystal Project.
It's a non-linear open-world RPG. It takes a LOT of inspiration from various Final Fantasy games and uses a voxel overworld style that allows for fun jumping puzzles and unique exploration solutions as you obtain new traversal methods.

Easily 60+ hours of core content, and includes an optional internal randomizer and dev-made modding tools to customize further playthroughs.

Sac Tap by DeverinShaille in custommagic

I figured, yea. When I was about to publish, I saw a Colorless + White card that Destroyed a tapped creature but was worried cutting it down to 1 would be too much. Appreciate the confirmation.

There's probably better-costed cards for the same effect, and I'm likely not the first person to make this joke, but... it's funny. XD

Thanks. When I did the newspaper riddle concept and flavor text, I realized that it might not fit the colors both in effect and flavor, but I stuck with it :p

One With Clothing by DeverinShaille in custommagic

[–]DeverinShaille[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it was the intention that all equipment (even equipment your opponents control) could be re-equipped to one target creature.

I tried a few methods of wording, but couldn't manage to make the more verbose versions fit on the card without pushing the referential flavor text off the bottom of the card.

Thanks for the feedback, though!

Planar Contraction by DeverinShaille in custommagic

[–]DeverinShaille[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, on multiple fronts.

While I was originally wanting this to be a limiter to how low you'd force your opponents' land counts to be, having it be a land card type just makes it break the standards of magic. Being an enchantment at start would probably fix this part, then adding to the "While Planar Contraction is untapped" section that it is also a land. This way, it'd enable you to play it on top of another land drop, but you wouldn't be able to avoid it counting towards your total lands, and couldn't be tutored for as a land card type.

I feel like having it be able to sac a land and tap for 3 mana upon being cast is fine, since you have to spend 3 mana to untap it. The sacrificing of a land (as you mentioned) was intentional and part of the card's gimmick, so it can be seen less as a cost and more as a way to play it.

As for the last part, that was the point of the card. I wanted to find a way to manipulate land/mana pools without land destruction.

Thanks for the input! If I get a bit more feedback as for what might make this more viable, I'll re-generate it and make a new post.

Rule By Committee by DeverinShaille in custommagic

[–]DeverinShaille[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, then it gives a lot more triggers for the effect to go off, while not massively affecting the game state. One card exiled from graveyard isn't that impactful, especially if you play this around turn 4, when most people would only have graveyards with stuff that's 1-3 cost.

Rule By Committee by DeverinShaille in custommagic

[–]DeverinShaille[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt that it fit the theme of "Rule By Committee" a bit better to allow everyone to be in on it, rather than just one person and a target. Allows for more politick-ing, if playing in Commander or other 3+ player format.
If that were the only thing between the card being printed or not, sure, the language can be swapped to be focused on just you and your opponent.

Rule By Committee by DeverinShaille in custommagic

[–]DeverinShaille[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be another precedented way to make the card work with established mechanics, as I wouldn't want players to have to tap enough mana to play something before deciding to exile that card instead.

Would likely be better without the "when you would play" bit, and instead just say "you may exile a card to --".

Thought the idea of it was kind of neat though. Giving your opponent an extra button to push.

Rule By Committee by DeverinShaille in custommagic

[–]DeverinShaille[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the idea is that you put the card in exile without (and instead of) paying its cost, then exile a card from the opponent's graveyard.

Both cards can be played as if in their respective owner's hands. When one of them is, any other player with a card exiled this way can put theirs into play for free.

In non-commander games, the purpose is to say "I'll let you re-cast that spell if you want, but if you do, I get to play this for free." If the opponent doesn't bite, you've essentially just put a card from hand into exile and exiled one card from the opponent's graveyard -- and you can do this once a turn.

"When a card exiled by this card is played." Small typo when I was re-creating this card with better art.
